Job Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to support the team Lead/ Campus Dean in delivering a high-quality student learning experience while developing the skills and knowledge required for future leadership. The Trainee Team Lead will gain exposure to academic team coordination, course delivery, and administrative duties, with a strong emphasis on academic and student support. This role offers a structured pathway to grow into a full Team Lead role through guided training, mentoring, and hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Note: This is a developmental role, and not all responsibilities will be held independently at first. Duties will increase progressively in line with the individuals performance and readiness.
Leadership Development Responsibilities:
Assist the Team Lead/Campus Dean in day-to-day academic coordination.
Shadow and support academic leadership tasks, including timetabling, lecturer allocations, covers and teaching support monitoring.
Attend meetings with departments and staff to observe decision-making and strategic planning processes.
Learn to monitor teaching standards and contribute to internal quality assurance processes.
Support Lecturers in coordinating class delivery, materials, and assessments.
Contribute to team communications to ensure academic and student support alignment.
Help gather feedback from academic staff and students for continuous improvement initiatives.
Take part in projects or initiatives that improve student engagement and success.
Participate in internal training and mentoring sessions designed to prepare for a future leadership role.
Assist and supportCourse Coordinatorsin the daily operations of their functions.
Teaching and Academic Responsibilities:
Deliver teaching at foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels in assigned modules under supervision.
Support the planning and development of curriculum and learning materials.
Monitor and record student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Identify and supportat-risk students(due to low attendance, late submissions, or special needs) in collaboration with Academic Support, Student Support, and Lecturers.
Provide academic support through designated office hours, academic tutorials, andpastoral care (including PAT supervision).
Assist in marking and providing constructive feedback in line with academic guidelines.
Contribute to the development of academic support activities aimed at improving retention and student success.
Maintain an up-to-date record of all academic interventions and student communications.
Engage with students via in-person meetings, phone calls, and digital platforms to ensure academic and personal progress.
Participate in academic events, induction weeks, and committee meetings as required.
Professional Development:
Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) through internal training, mentoring, and external opportunities.
Seek feedback from mentors and team leads to improve performance and readiness for a full Team Lead role.
Familiarise with institutional policies on academic quality, student welfare, GDPR, health and safety, and equal opportunities.
Observe and contribute to campus-wide academic and operational initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
Masters degree
Fellowship with HEA
PGCert in Teaching & Learning (or equivalent)
Experience in academic leadership/supervisory role
Experience in module leadership
Desirable
PhD
?Senior Fellowship (HEA)
Performance and Review
Performance will be reviewedquarterlyby the Campus Dean, with feedback sessions aligned to KPIs and CPD objectives.
