Fairfield School of Business (FSB), an OFS registered private higher education provider founded in 2006 with campuses in London, Birmingham, Leicester and Luton. We provide industry-relevant qualifications in business and healthcare management, in partnership with leading UK universities. Our focus is to offer an open and inclusive learning and teaching environment for both students and staff. We are also committed to providing access to higher education to those who may not have formal qualifications, financial means or can commit to the schedule of a mainstream university.
The post of Course Leader is a primary part of the academic department ensuring the lead and development of the school and its students of all aspects within the student centres. The post holder must be able to build strong relationships with directors, board members and senior management within the organisation. The post holder will also be required to work closely with the registry and exams department on a team base to ensure the highest level of administration on a team-based timetable. The post holder must be able to manage and performance manage the overview of all staff within their field and liaise with all heads of department on a professional and one to one basis.
Minimum requirements for the post:
- Education: Minimum of Postgraduate degree.
- Minimum of Level 7 teaching qualification.

- Involved in a higher education institute
- Highly experienced in design, development and delivery of higher education
- Involved in quality assurance and maintaining standards
- Involved in Validation of programs; vocational qualifications, undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Management skills including education and experience

Purpose of the Role:
- To provide the strategic vision and leadership for all the study centres (or branches of the Fairfield School of Business) both on Academic and non-Academic levels under the management of FSB Board of Directors.
- To lead the academic development of the School and its Study Centres.
- To lead FSB towards degree awarding powers in all disciplines within 02 years.
- To liaise with the senior officers of the School to ensure the effective management of its Study Centres.
- To develop an effective working relationship with the Director and the Board in order to meet the highest standards of corporate governance.
- To enhance the reputation of the School for academic excellence, quality and engagement across its Study Centres.
- To influence and advocate on behalf of the School and its interests through active engagement with the sector, government, business and alumni in the UK and internationally.
Duties of the Role:
- To be responsible for the strategic and operational development and delivery of a (single or suite) programme area, ensuring quality standards are set and maintained, teaching and learning practices are appropriately enhanced and the learner experience (as considered by students) is outstanding.
- To be responsible for the management and coordination of academic and pastoral support for all students enrolled onto the Programme(s) through the coordination and completion of Personal Development Plans.
- To liaise closely with Team Leaders and Course Coordinators to ensure that curriculum is appropriately developed and delivered within and across years of study and that assessment is rigorous, relevant and exciting for the learner.
- To develop employer, corporate and community links that enhance the learner experience, bring value to the School and help to promote the Programme to appropriate external audiences.
- To fully engage with the Schools quality management and committee structures including liaison with External Examiners, awarding bodies, and the coordination and production of the Programme and Module annual reports, agreeing development plans and monitoring action.
- To work closely with the Registry and HR teams to agree an annual and term-based timetable that best reflects Programme and student interests within the constraints of available resources.
- To be responsible for the management of physical and teaching resources allocated to the Programme area and to make recommendations for future requirements.
- To manage the performance of staff within the subject field, as appropriate, through the matrix line management structure of the Faculty and to contribute to the annual appraisal of staff.
- To be responsible for the monitoring and improvement for the academic and organisational performance (e.g. attendance) of all students on the Programme, and manage student complaints and conduct student disciplinary as appropriate.
- To be responsible for all the marketing and promotional activity related to the Programme area, including the generation of materials for the prospectus, student handbook, and open days.
- To establish and maintain appropriate dialogues and relationships with the subject community and its audiences, nationally and internationally, continually updating the Schools knowledge of academic developments, subject and skills and relevant industrial and technological developments for the benefit of the Programme area, its staff and students.
- To teach an annually agreed timetable and to undertake an allocation of marking as demand requires and within reasonable workloads.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- Academic and/or professional qualifications to Masters degree in Business Management or relevant subject.
- Extensive teaching experience in higher education at FHEQ level.
- Experience in teaching Home/EU and International students.
- Relevant experience, which reflect the nature of the appointment.
- Strong English Writing & Communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge and experience of Microsoft (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, & Access).
- Good interpersonal skills and experience of communicating effectively with staff and students.
- Effective management and leadership skills appropriate to an education environment.
- Understanding of the issues involved in successfully integrating high-quality teaching, business development activities within an academic setting.
- The ability to direct the development of the subjects/disciplines represented in the Business Department.
- The ability to manage performance and develop staff both individually and in teams.
- The ability to chair formal and informal meetings.
- The ability to command respect.
- This will be a combination of a personal academic record of significant achievements, relevant experience at a senior level inside higher education and knowledge of the Business Department.
- The successful candidate will need to have a flexible approach, be independent and proactive, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
- You will have strong communication skills and be able to negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation.
- In addition to the required educational and professional experiences expressed for each post, ideal candidates would be ambitious, innovative and entrepreneurial.
- Candidates would not only be comfortable with change management; they would positively thrive in exciting dynamic environments.
- Experience of both public and private HEIs would be advantageous but not essential.
