We are looking to appoint a Course Leader to play a primary role in our academic department, ensuring the lead and development of the school and its students across all aspects within the student centres.

As Course Leader you will build strong relationships with directors, board members and senior management, implement and attract high‐performance teams, and work closely with the registry and exams department to ensure the highest level of administration on a team‐based timetable.

Purpose of the Role
  • Provide the strategic vision and leadership for all study centres (or branches) on both academic and non‐academic levels under the management of the FSB Board of Directors.
  • Lead the academic development of the School and its Study Centres.
  • Lead FSB towards degree awarding powers in all disciplines within 2 years.
  • Liaise with senior officers of the School to ensure effective management of its Study Centres.
  • Develop an effective working relationship with the Director and the Board to meet the highest standards of corporate governance.
  • Enhance the reputation of the School for academic excellence, quality and engagement across its Study Centres.
  • Influence and advocate on behalf of the School and its interests through active engagement with the sector, government, business and alumni, both in the UK and internationally.
Duties of the Role
  • Strategic and operational development and delivery of a programme area, ensuring quality standards are set and maintained, teaching and learning practices are enhanced and the learner experience is outstanding.
  • Manage and coordinate academic and pastoral support for all students enrolled onto the programme(s) through Personal Development Plans.
  • Liaise closely with Team Leaders and Course Coordinators to ensure curriculum is appropriately developed and delivered within and across years of study and that assessment is rigorous, relevant and engaging.
  • Develop employer, corporate and community links that enhance the learner experience and promote the programme to external audiences.
  • Engage fully with the School's quality management and committee structures, including liaison with External Examiners, awarding bodies, and the coordination and production of the Programme and Module annual reports, agreeing development plans and monitoring action.
  • Work closely with the Registry and HR teams to agree annual and term‐based timetables that reflect programme and student interests within available resources.
  • Manage physical and teaching resources allocated to the programme area and make recommendations for future requirements.
  • Manage the performance of staff within the subject field, contributing to the annual appraisal of staff.
  • Monitor and improve the academic and organisational performance (e.g. attendance) of all students, and manage student complaints and conduct student disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
  • Lead all marketing and promotional activity related to the programme area, including the generation of materials for the prospectus, student handbook and open days.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate dialogues and relationships with the subject community and its audiences, nationally and internationally, updating the School's knowledge of academic developments, subject and skills and industrial and technological developments for the benefit of the programme area.
  • Teach an agreed timetable and allocate marking as needed within reasonable workloads.
Minimum Requirements for the Post
  • Postgraduate degree (minimum Level 7).
  • Level 7 teaching qualification.
  • Involved in a higher education institution.
  • Highly experienced in design, development and delivery of higher education.
  • Involved in quality assurance and maintaining standards.
  • Involved in validation of programmes at vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Management skills including education and experience.
  • Experience working with external examiners.
  • Membership of Advance HE.
