About the company: We’re a growing company with a mission to make banking and insurance fairer for consumers as well as the businesses that serve them. We do that through campaigning, publishing our unique ratings, and by working with companies to deliver better customer outcomes. We are recruiting for a new researcher to join our growing team.
About the Research Team: Fairer Finance’s Research Team gathers and analyses the market data which underlies our:
- Product Ratings: These are designed to help consumers choose good quality or good value financial services products.
- Customer Experience Ratings: These are designed to help consumers find a bank, building society or insurer that offers good service, not just a good rate or price.
- Research Projects: These support Fairer Finance’s campaigns by producing essential data analysis into key policy areas. This could involve economic modelling, data science and statistical analysis.
- Insights and Analysis: Our researchers track, analyse and communicate market changes and trends to companies, media, policymakers and a range of other stakeholders. This includes writing blogs and social media posts.
Our research team is responsible for keeping all our ratings up to date as well as developing our methodologies. Our ratings are scrutinised by the public, firms and the media alike - so keeping our data accurate is a core part of the role. Each researcher has their own specialism - but collaborates regularly with the wider research team.
Primary responsibilities of the Researcher:
- Product Ratings: Gathering data for our product ratings, including mystery shopping and analysing terms and conditions documents. Liaising with brands to request data and process updates. Keeping up to date with market trends and developing our methodologies.
- Customer Experience Ratings: Working within the wider research team to conduct our customer experience rating mystery shopping, including getting a firm grip on a range of personal finance products in order to properly analyse firms' transparency. Compiling and analysing data from our consumer survey. Ensuring our Insight Portal is kept up-to-date and accurate.
Secondary responsibilities:
- Contributing to our external research reports, including involvement in our policy work and campaigns.
- Contributing to consultancy projects through statistical or data science analysis of our consumer survey and product data.
- Engaging with external queries (from brands to media requests), including putting together short, concise overviews of our data.
- Writing blog posts for the website using your unique insights as a market expert.
Requirements of the Researcher:
- Essential: Good knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets, ability to write clearly, ability to tell a compelling story with data, an eye for detail and inquisitive nature, ability to problem solve independently, organisation skills, including keeping track of multiple ongoing projects, an ability to work well within and across teams.
- Desirable: Either a 2:1 University degree OR experience in a similar role, experience in managing and analysing quantitative data sets through economic modelling, data science or statistical analysis, understanding of the personal finance market / consumer issues.
Our values: We’re looking for someone who shares our values. This means: A passion for fairness, an enthusiasm to collaborate and co-create solutions, a supportive attitude towards others, the humility to seek out a diversity of views and listen to others, the courage to stand up for what you believe, a commitment to quality and an eye for detail, a desire to take the initiative and ownership of your work, a creative and innovative mindset, a reflective mindset, constantly seeking to learn, evaluate, and improve, a desire to seek feedback and learn quickly, the honesty to admit mistakes.
Researcher benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, and your birthday off. One extra day of holiday for every year with the business. Competitive starting salary with salary reviews every 6 months. Company pension scheme upon successful completion of the probationary period. Season ticket loan. Career Progression and Professional Development. Hybrid working - a mix of days working from home and from our central London offices. A friendly team with regular socials and a charity outreach day every year.
How to apply: Please apply with your CV and a covering letter. Your cover letter should explain why you want to work for Fairer Finance and why you believe you will be suitable for the role. You will only be considered for this role if you attach a tailored covering letter. We’d rather you didn’t use AI to create your cover letter, as we want to see how you communicate and get to know you better.
