Location and Role

Fair Ways have a number of different sites throughout the Solent area that support the fantastic work that our charity undertakes. To maintain each of these properties there are a team of maintenance professionals ensuring their continuous upkeep and safe running. We are currently recruiting for a reliable, conscientious and enthusiastic Painting and Decorating Apprentice to work as part of our central maintenance team. In this role you will undertake required study alongside shadowing and supporting within the maintenance team to include preparing, painting and finishing interior and exterior surfaces across all Fair Ways services as well as providing general maintenance support.

Key Duties

  • Making a difference – All Fair Ways services require well maintained and highly functional properties. These properties play a huge part in ensuring we can deliver much needed services in order to keep our families, children and young people safe.
  • Study and work-based education – You will undertake any required study, shadowing and workplace assessment related to your apprenticeship through attendance at college 1 day per week and completion of any associated learning.
  • Working as part of a fantastic team – You will shadow and undertake decorating and maintenance jobs effectively, meeting deadlines, communicating clearly with your team, providing progress reports and updates as required.
  • Safety comes first – Ensuring all work is carried out safely with the monitoring of good, safe working practice whilst adhering to all Health and Safety policies within the organisation.
  • Keeping things tidy – To ensure the removal and disposal of all debris and waste following any works undertaken, including surface protection and leaving all sites tidy and clean.
  • Being part of something bigger – It is important to highlight that the majority of works undertaken will be within our frontline services so it is key to ensure a good understanding and knowledge of what our services deliver prior to application.

Contract and Working Conditions

This role is offered on an initial 2 year fixed term contract (the duration of the apprenticeship) with the potential for extension to a permanent role upon completion. 37.5 hour per week basis, working Monday to Friday, you will attend college 1 day per week as part of the apprenticeship. This role will involve very occasional travel and potential overnight stays to support our services in Wales, Bath and Bristol. The successful candidate will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways. Fair Ways are unable to provide VISA sponsorship for this role and all applicants will need to be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK.

  • To be happy to work towards a Level 2 apprenticeship relevant to the role.
  • To have the ability to follow written & verbal instructions, calculate dimensions and estimate material needs.
