Where and when do we need you? We are currently looking for a reliable, conscientious, and enthusiastic Carpenter to join our skilled maintenance team, carrying out a wide range of general maintenance and repair work across our properties. Fair Ways services operate from locations across the Solent, Wales, Bath and Bristol with this role being predominantly based in the Solent area. The maintenance of our properties plays an essential part in supporting those we care for ensuring the upkeep and smooth operation of our residential, education and family services.
As a carpenter with Fair Ways, you will be involved in a range of exciting and rewarding tasks:
- Using your existing skills to make a meaningful difference: Providing high quality and effective carpentry support to all Fair Ways Services according to project specifications, reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints and using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Working safely: Having an awareness of the risks and challenges of undertaking carpentry works when working within the Health and Social care sector, ensuring all work is carried out safely with the monitoring of good, safe working practice whilst adhering to all Health and Safety policies within the organisation.
- Working smartly: Ensuring the removal and disposal of all debris and waste following any works undertaken, leaving all sites tidy and clean whilst guaranteeing strict waste management procedures are adhered to.
- Using your effective communication skills: Communicating effectively with your line manager and the wider maintenance team providing progress reports and feedback on productivity.
- Managing your time effectively: Managing your workload effectively ensuring that all tasks are fulfilled by required deadlines in accordance with the maintenance scheduling plan.
- Being part of a fantastic team: Attending and engaging in weekly team meetings, contributing to discussions around current projects and workload.
- Working in a trauma informed environment: Playing your part in growing a compassionate, resilient and trauma informed community.
This role is offered on a 37.5 hour per week basis, working Monday to Friday. This role will involve very occasional travel and potential overnight stays to support our services in Wales, Bath and Bristol. All candidates must have a full driving license as the role will require travel between sites. The successful candidate will be provided with a vehicle, tools and uniform and will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways. Fair Ways are unable to provide VISA sponsorship for this role and all applicants will need to be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK.
You and your specialisms
- Essential: A Level 3 apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery, strong knowledge of carpentry, joinery, and roofing techniques, proven experience as a carpenter or similar role within the construction industry, proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment, valid relevant certifications or licences preferred, relevant Fire door installation Qualification.
- Desirable: Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints, an awareness of the health and social care sector would be advantageous.
