About the Role

We are seeking a Commissioning Operations Lead to join our Systems Engineering team (Hybrid – Leeds office with UK & international travel). This role exists to lead the technical and operational delivery of commissioning activities across global projects, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and high standards while supporting business performance through reduced faults and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for leading commissioning operations, supporting field engineers, and driving best practice across projects, working closely with the PMO, engineering, and design teams. This opportunity would suit a technically strong commissioning or controls engineer with leadership experience, looking to take ownership of global commissioning standards within a stable, international engineering business.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and supporting field commissioning engineers to ensure high-quality project delivery
  • Overseeing commissioning progress and proactively mitigating risks in collaboration with PMO
  • Acting as the central technical authority for commissioning and fault resolution
  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and influencing design changes
  • Ensuring commissioning standards, documentation, and processes are consistently applied
  • Supporting resource planning and operational coordination across projects
  • Maintaining and enhancing digital commissioning tools, documentation, and reporting
  • Ensuring all activities meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards (Responsibilities will reflect business priorities and may evolve in line with operational needs.)

What We’re Looking For

Essential
  • Strong technical background in electrical systems, PLCs, and industrial machinery
  • Proven experience supporting or leading field engineers
  • Experience in commissioning, controls, or industrial systems engineering
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability (electrical, PLC, process)
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and support multiple projects
  • Professional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (EN 60204, ISO 12100, EN746-2)
Desirable
  • Experience with combustion or thermal processing systems
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite)
  • Experience developing commissioning documentation and SAT forms
  • Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments

Working Pattern & Travel

Full time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday) with one day per week working from home. Hybrid working with regular UK and international travel required.

Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum.
