We are seeking a Junior Building Services Commissioning Engineer with either a mechanical or electrical bias to support the delivery of commissioning services on building projects. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to develop hands-on commissioning expertise while working alongside experienced commissioning professionals. The successful candidate will support commissioning activities from design through construction and into handover, gaining exposure to HVAC, electrical systems, controls, and life safety systems, depending on discipline.
Key Responsibilities- Project & Technical Support – Support senior commissioning engineers and project managers on active projects – Assist with commissioning activities across mechanical or electrical building systems – Participate in commissioning from design review through construction and handover – Attend site visits and inspections under supervision
- Systems & Testing – Assist with commissioning of systems including (depending on bias): Mechanical: HVAC systems, air and water systems, public health systems; Electrical: Lighting systems, emergency power, electrical distribution, life safety systems – Support witnessing of equipment start-up, pre-functional checks, and functional testing – Assist with reviewing system installations against design intent and specifications
- Documentation & Reporting – Assist in preparing commissioning documentation, including: Pre-functional checklists, Functional test scripts, Site inspection reports – Support the organisation and management of commissioning records – Contribute to system manuals and final commissioning reports
- Learning & Development – Develop an understanding of commissioning processes, standards, and best practices – Learn to interpret drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation – Gain exposure to BMS and controls systems (where applicable) – Participate in internal training and on-the-job mentoring
- Client & Team Interaction – Communicate clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders – Represent Facility Performance Consulting in a professional manner on site and with clients – Work collaboratively as part of a project delivery team
- Continuous Improvement – Adhere to company policies, procedures and quality management systems – Capture lessons learned and promote continuous improvement in commissioning methodologies, energy performance and reliability outcomes across projects
The ideal candidate will be an early-career building services engineer with a mechanical or electrical bias, looking to develop a career in building commissioning. The role requires the candidate to demonstrate a strong technical foundation, a willingness to learn commissioning processes, and a structured approach to safety, quality, and compliance. The successful candidate will be analytical, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively under the guidance of senior engineers across a range of commercial and non-critical building projects.
Essential- OND / HND / Degree (or working towards) in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- 2-5 years' experience in building services, construction, commissioning, or engineering consultancy
- Interest in building performance, commissioning, and systems testing
- Site experience within mechanical or electrical building services
- Exposure to HVAC and/or electrical
- Awareness of commissioning or quality assurance processes
- Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks
- Proactive, reliable, and team-oriented
- Competent with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
