Purpose of the job
Providing leadership, management, and development of a defined contract, ensuring financial and operational commitments are met and exceeded. Hard and soft services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and ensure contractual commitments are met and exceeded.
- Ensure that opportunities for the strategic development of the contract are exploited to deliver increased turnover and profitability, add additional services and projects, and re‑win contracts on re‑tender.
- Ensure business policies and processes are effectively communicated and implemented within the contract.
- Ensure provision of healthy and safe working conditions and that both clients and the Company health and safety policy and process are effectively implemented across the business and subcontractor activities, and are regularly reviewed.
- Ensure optimum staffing structures operate across contracts, balancing cost reduction with delivery of service excellence, supporting peaks and troughs in workload and disaster recovery.
- Ensure contracts are staffed by fully competent teams, ensure post holders are fully competent, and that effective succession planning arrangements are in place.
- Work with other Operational managers to collaboratively develop the business, foster effective team working, and support colleagues.
- Develop contract financial plans for revenue and profit delivery, reduction of WIP and debt, cost reduction and contract growth, and ensure these are met and exceeded.
- Ensure appropriate control systems to meet statutory, policy and contractual commitments.
- Ensure a customer focus within all areas of operational activities and maintain effective relationships with key client contacts.
- Promote and maintain the values of the business.
- Provide leadership and guidance, advice, coaching and direct support, where required, to deliver best practice in selection, training, assessment and recognition/reward.
- Deliver effective business communication through advice, review, leadership and direct contribution to management and team meetings, briefings, consultation forums, correspondence, publicity, monthly and ad‑hoc reporting and other publications, as appropriate.
- Support the sales process through solutions development, participation in presentations and consultation meetings, hosting visits, and support mobilisation on new contracts.
- Provide a learning environment, appropriate training and development planning, deliver basic training needs, and enable employees to reach their full future potential.
Accountabilities
- Accountability to the business functional heads, as appropriate.
- Accountable day‑to‑day to the relevant client contacts.
- Line management responsibility for a contract team and indirectly for relevant sub‑contractors.
- Financial responsibility for delivery of plan commitments for the contract.
Person Specification
Education: An engineering qualification is preferred, preferably HND or above.
Training: Incumbents must be able to demonstrate a career showing continuous personal development.
Experience
- Managerial experience at Contract / Account Manager or above within technical and/or hard services is preferred.
- Delivery of wider facilities management services – desirable.
- Development and review of teams, appraisal, and application of effective people management practice – desirable.
- High level of energy, self‑starter, confident, stable manner.
- Organised, able to prioritise and deliver within high‑pressure, business‑critical environments.
- Incumbents will be required to travel on occasions to support operational delivery, participate in training and business review; some overnight stays may be needed.
