About Us
National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
About The Role
As we deliver the next generation of gas and low‑carbon infrastructure, strong, trusted digital foundations are critical. We’re looking for an experienced Digital Lead to shape how digital data, models and systems support our New Molecules capital programmes, from concept through construction and into long‑term asset management. This is a pivotal role for someone who thrives at the intersection of BIM, GIS, asset management and digital transformation, and who wants to influence how complex national infrastructure programmes are delivered. You’ll ensure high‑quality data, compliance with industry standards, and seamless integration between BIM, GIS and enterprise systems, enabling better decisions, safer delivery and long‑term asset value. Working closely with engineering, asset management, GIS and Technology teams, you’ll act as a SME and trusted adviser, embedding consistent digital ways of working across major programmes.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading the development and management of BIM models to support the design, construction and operation of gas and new molecules infrastructure.
- Defining and delivering digital requirements across programmes, including BIM, GIS, Common Data Environments and reporting solutions.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, including ISO 19650, and developing workflows that improve data quality and consistency.
- Acting as a BIM and digital SME, providing expert guidance to project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Integrating BIM with GIS, asset management systems and enterprise platforms to optimise digital asset management.
- Developing Power BI dashboards and digital reporting tools to support programme and portfolio insight.
- Carrying out assurance and validation of digital information to ensure it meets business and operational needs.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external contractors to improve digital coordination and information exchange.
- Developing and maintaining BIM automation scripts (e.g. Dynamo, Python or VBA) to improve efficiency and data handling.
- Coaching, mentoring and assuring junior team members, building long‑term digital capability within the organisation.
- Keeping pace with emerging BIM and digital technologies and driving continuous improvement.
About You
You’re a confident digital leader who can solve complex technical problems and explain them clearly to non‑specialists. You’re comfortable influencing stakeholders with competing priorities and are motivated by seeing digital standards translate into real‑world project outcomes.
Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, GIS or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience working with BIM processes, standards and digital construction methodologies.
- Expert proficiency in BIM tools such as Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, Bentley MicroStation or similar.
- Strong understanding of asset management principles and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Expert‑level experience working with Common Data Environments (e.g. BIM 360, ProjectWise).
- Proven ability to lead digital initiatives, assure data quality and influence technical decision‑making.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- Experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or QGIS and spatial data management.
- Hands‑on experience developing BIM automation scripts using Dynamo, Python or VBA.
- Experience embedding BIM and digital strategies across large, complex infrastructure portfolios.
- Background working with major programmes, regulated utilities or capital delivery environments.
