My client, an innovative professional services company, is looking to bring a talented Senior Media Relations Manager into its corporate affairs team. Based in stunning central London offices (3 days in per week), your role will be pivotal in shaping and amplifying the company's voice across national, trade, and digital media platforms. As a FTSE 250, the company's offering spans a remarkable breadth of sector activity. As such, there is enormous scope when it comes to telling positive stories. Current focus areas include building safer communities, industry leading investment in people and skills, decarbonisation, energy security, technology and AI, and plenty more.
The role itself offers real diversity from a comms discipline perspective: elements of corporate comms, media relations, campaigning, crisis and issues management, and public affairs. That said, the title is media relations for a reason, and the role definitely demands an amazing media operator. Someone who can play a lynchpin role in a high profile press office, is adept at handling issues to mitigate reputational impact, and brings proven experience in an external comms role, ideally within a complex or regulated environment.
Generally, the single biggest attribute this team looks for is a positive attitude. This is genuinely a business that rewards proactivity, and one where you can make a difference beyond the confines of comms. For example, the business' net zero plan was developed by the comms team, and those 'green' credentials have been cited as a major attraction by recently acquired partners.
It's a vast business that touches on many different areas. As such, that ability to juggle multiple topics, dealing with different, and often senior, stakeholders, and multiple departments, similar in many ways to what you'd experience agency-side, is key.
Beyond that, other desired experience includes:
- Someone who is really hungry and can set an example to the team on what good quality busy looks like
- Being driven by results, possessing proof of leading your own activity
- Genuine resilience, equipping you to work in a particularly lean and busy team. That drive and ability to work under pressure, be highly organised and juggle multiple priorities meeting tight deadlines
- Any public affairs experience would be an added bonus
