At FabPub Ltd, we can design, make and create at our own fabrication facility. We believe in craft and link our digital files to our fabrication tools (laser-cutting, 3D Printing, CNC-milling) through custom software. Main Purpose of the Job

As a Digital Fabrication specialising in 3D printing, you will be an integral part of our additive manufacturing processes and contribute to the creation of innovative products.

You will work both independently and in coordination with project leads, managers and colleagues to support fabrication and other ad hoc services as requested.

The post holder will have a strong interest in 3D printing, a willingness to learn, and a hands-on approach to digital fabrication and will be required to work in various capacities, ensuring essential services are supported, so must be flexible and able to deliver a variety of duties such as:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate digital fabrication equipment, including 3D printers, 3D scanners, and laser cutters.

  • Operate power tools and other workshop equipment, such as a Band Saw, Mitre Saw, Table Saw, and Drill Press, safely and efficiently.

  • Ensure all tasks are delivered on time and expedite operations that delay or alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.

  • Lead projects and project delivery.

  • Understand how to use machinery and tools in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, and complete the scheduled maintenance for each machine.

  • Maintain a safe environment by keeping workspaces clean.

  • Keeping track of the fabrication process and understanding the importance of detail during a project.

  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and parts needed for production and maintain a production schedule.

  • Be communicative, keeping all team members involved up to date and discussing how to improve the workflow.

  • Having the ability to manage time and tasks, being able to work independently and take initiative.

  • You will work very closely with our sister company, sometimes entirely focused on delivering a project for them as a subcontractor.

  • Troubleshoot and stress test products to minimise problems or recalls.

Safety & Maintenance

  • Follow the health and safety protocols of the associated work environment.

  • Takes due care in exercising and monitoring safe behaviour in the workshop and raising non-compliance issues.

  • Proactively report any production problems to the Workshop Managers as appropriate and actively seek solutions to problems.

General

  • Follow and actively promote the MMFP Values and Ways of Working.

  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the line manager, project leads and other managers.

  • Support the department’s wider operations as required from time to time which could involve regenerations of workshops and projects that have specific deadlines. This may involve flexibility with working hours to reach deadlines on occasion.

  • 3D modelling software should be known; Rhino (plus Grasshopper).

  • Advanced knowledge base of digital fabrication techniques and equipment. Particularly relating to 3D Printing (FDM & SLA), Laser Cutting, and CNC machining.

  • Possessing more general practical skills are a requisite for this position. Speciality in carpentry, woodworking, metal-working, machining, model-making etc. are desirable. Practical experience in assembly and site work/installation is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with common workshop equipment and power tools is a must. The ability to utilise them independently, safely and with a high level of accuracy is essential.

  • Can work independently, efficiently and to an acceptable standard.

  • Can break down broad objectives into sub-tasks, create an order of operations, and sequence them appropriately.

  • Is proactive and demonstrates initiative in completing tasks. Can identify bottlenecks and issues as they arise.

  • Able to exercise critical thinking in planning, during and after tasks to improve the collective output.

  • Is excited to learn and grow, improving on both strengths and weaknesses.

  • Can manage their own time effectively, and is able to estimate time needed for tasks.

  • Seeks help when necessary, raises pertinent questions and red-flags in advance.

  • Is able to lead projects of suitable complexity alone. Diligent in independently managing project-related tasks, keeping accurate records, and producing thorough documentation throughout.
