We're hiring a Unix/Linux Engineer to join a growing technology team responsible for maintaining and supporting enterprise-scale systems. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, automation, and working closely with users to keep systems running smoothly.
Location: Hybrid - 2 days per week in Bristol
Salary: Up to £60,000
About the RoleYou'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of Unix/Linux environments across both production and development. From resolving incidents to automating processes, your work will directly contribute to business continuity and system stability.
What You'll Do- Monitor, maintain, and support Unix/Linux systems across multiple environments
- Respond to incidents, service requests, and changes in line with SLAs
- Perform system patching, upgrades, and routine health checks
- Troubleshoot issues across software, hardware, networks, and applications
- Support users by diagnosing problems and providing clear, effective solutions
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and file systems
- Maintain system security and respond to vulnerabilities
- Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement
- Take part in an on-call rota
- Strong experience in Unix/Linux system administration and support
- Hands-on knowledge of Linux (Red Hat) and Unix (Solaris 10/11)
- Familiarity with older Solaris versions (8/9) is a bonus
- Experience with tools/technologies such as Ansible, Docker, Podman or Mirantis
- Scripting skills (e.g. Bash, Python) for automation
- Exposure to VMware and monitoring tools (e.g. VROPS)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
- Work on complex, enterprise-scale systems
