Join an international leader in technology services as a Unix/Linux Support Engineer, keeping critical systems running smoothly for a major defence programme. You’ll be hands-on with Solaris (10 & 11, ideally 8 & 9 too) and Linux (Red Hat) environments, solving complex technical problems and making a real operational impact.
What you’ll do:
- Monitor, maintain, and support Unix/Linux systems in production & dev environments
- Resolve incidents, service requests, and system alerts in line with SLAs
- Perform patching, updates, and routine system checks to optimise performance & security
- Troubleshoot software, hardware, and connectivity issues for end-users
- Manage user accounts, permissions, file systems, and security best practices
- Write scripts (Bash/Python) to automate processes and improve efficiency
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Provide on-call support on a rota
What you’ll bring:
- Solaris (10 & 11, ideally 8 & 9 too) + Linux Red Hat
- Scripting skills in Bash or Python
- Experience with Ansible, Docker/Mirantis/Podman, and VMware tools (VROPS a bonus)
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer service skills
- Ability to translate technical details for non-technical users
Sole UK nationals only. Must be SC clearance eligible. Able to work on-site in Bristol 5 days/week.
