Basic Salary: £156.00 per shift

On Target Earnings: £33,000 - £40,000 per year depending upon hours worked

We are an agency recruiting for a local, family-run, established garage and workshop based in Chalfont St Giles. They are recruiting a Trainee Recovery Mechanic to drive their 3.5T truck recovery vehicle and train to attend broken down vehicles by the roadside and repair wherever possible. The successful candidate does not need qualifications in mechanics; all they ask is that you have the passion for cars and basic mechanical skills and understanding plus the drive and determination to learn and succeed. They will provide on-the-job training and develop your basic aptitude into recognised skills and experience.

As a Trainee Recovery Mechanic your duties will be to assist the Technicians as well as work on your own. You'll attend customers whose vehicles have broken down either by the roadside or at their home or place of work and:

  • Change tyres and batteries and complete other minor/basic repairs.

Once trained and experienced you will:

  • Diagnose and repair basic mechanical faults.
  • Diagnose and repair basic electrical faults.

To be considered for the role you must be self-motivated, passionate about cars and able to work on your own initiative. You must be over 25 years old (this is essential for insurance purposes) and have held your Driving Licence for a minimum of 3 years.

In addition, the following key skills and experience are essential:

  • Prefer NVQ Level 1 or equivalent in Motor Vehicle Mechanics/Repair but will accept untrained but with an aptitude for basic car maintenance.
  • Full category B or above driving licence with 3-years driving experience and with a maximum of 6 points for minor endorsements and no outstanding DD, DR, CD, MR, AC or BA penalties.
  • Confident and personable when talking to customers.
  • Willing to work by the roadside in all weather conditions.
  • Empathetic and appreciative of the stressful situation that customers can find themselves in.

Vetting: Our client will undertake vetting including referencing for up to 3 years. They will also require a basic criminal records check, ID, and Right to Work check. If you have any criminal convictions or cautions in the UK or abroad you MUST declare them to us at the time of applying.
