The Role
As a Recovery Driver, you'll attend roadside breakdowns, recover cars and light commercial vehicles, and provide outstanding customer service to motorists when they need it most. Every day is different, making this a rewarding and varied career.
What You'll Need
- HGV Class 2 (Category C) or Class 1 (C+E) licence.
- Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
- Previous commercial driving experience (HGV, bus/coach or 7.5 tonne).
- Good understanding of Drivers' Hours and vehicle compliance.
- A calm, professional approach and excellent customer service skills.
Training
You'll receive a fully paid three-week training programme, including:
- Week 1: Home-based learning.
- Week 2: Residential training at their training academy (accommodation, meals and travel provided).
- Week 3: On-the-job mentoring from your local depot.
Shift Pattern
- Mixed shift start times between 06:00 and 19:00
- Average 9-11 hours per shift
- Average 42.5 hours per week
- Four-week rolling rota with 2 weekends worked and 2 weekends off
- Overtime available
Pay
First 12 Weeks (flat rate all hours):
- HGV2: £16.88 per hour (OTE £37,300).
- HGV1: £18.55 per hour (OTE £41,000).
After 12 Weeks (overtime paid after 8 hours worked and on additional shifts):
- HGV2 Overtime: £25.32 per hour (OTE £40,500).
- HGV1 Overtime: £27.82 per hour (OTE £44,600).
Many Recovery Drivers earn in excess of £50,000 per year through overtime.
Temp to Perm
You'll initially join on a six-month temporary contract through the agency, working full-time with weekly pay, paid holiday and company uniform. Successful drivers may then be offered a permanent position directly with the company, including access to enhanced benefits such as pension, employee discounts, wellbeing support and bonus opportunities.
