Being a Recovery Driver is not a 9 to 5 job; you'll need to be prepared to work shifts on a rota basis, but it is interesting and different, and no two days are the same. There are no multi-drops or waiting on loading bays just plenty of different breakdown scenarios and people to help. Interested?? Read on… _______________________________________________________________________________________ Job Details: Title: HGV2 Recovery Driver – Weekend Nights Status: Temporary (approximately 5 months; May to September 2025) Once the contract is completed there may be the opportunity for contract extension or possible permanent employment depending upon performance and the business requirement at the time. Available Locations: Bridgend, Bristol, Gloucester, Glasgow, Great Bridge, Leeds, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Worcester & West Manchester (Swinton) Start Date: from beginning of May 2025, various training course dates available. Description: Working as a Recovery Driver is highly rewarding as you are genuinely helping people in their time of need. It is interesting and no two days are the same, so you'll never get bored! Working for this prestigious company you will be required to attend broken-down Light Vehicles (cars and vans) by the roadside, load onto Recovery Truck and take to designated drop-off point i.e. garage or home address. These guys are the best in the business, so you'll receive excellent, paid training both online and at their state-of-the-art training centre in the West Midlands. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Skills & Experience: No previous recovery driving experience is required however the following skills and experience are essential: * HGV Class 2 (LGVC) licence or higher with a maximum of 6 points for minor endorsements and no outstanding DD, DR or CD penalties * Current Drivers Qualification and Drivers Card (full DCPC and Digi-Tacho) * Superb customer care skills and be able to communicate effectively with the public in stressful and difficult situations. There is never a “good time to break down” and people can be upset and worried, especially being by the side of the road. * Excellent driver's hours and compliance knowledge * Be self-motivated and able to work on own initiative, in all weathers and by the side of the road * Able to pass vetting including a DBS criminal records check and a Credit Check (see Vetting below for more information) Driving Experience Requirements: * Minimum 1 year’s HGV driving experience preferred * Newly qualified HGV drivers and ex-military personnel with heavy/commercial vehicle driving experience will be considered _______________________________________________________________________________________ Training: The hiring company provides a 3-week Induction Programme which includes: * Week 1: Online training from home (via Teams, with a company-provided mobile phone) * Week 2: Residential training at the West Midlands Academy (Accommodation, travel, and food provided) * Week 3: Mentor training in the truck from the depot Once training is completed, you will be fully prepared to start working independently. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Working Hours: Shift Pattern: Thursday to Sunday; 21:00 – 06:00 (with possible extension up to 08:00 on busy mornings). Overtime: End of shift and additional days available and "on-call" available, if required. _______________________________________________________________________________________ Pay & Benefits: Hourly Rate: £19.00 (Flat rate for all hours, including overtime) On-Call Incentive: Premium rate for rest-day night work (Summer months only, eligibility process applies) End-of-Contract Bonus: Reward for completing the full contract (Approx. 27th September) _______________________________________________________________________________________ Vetting & Compliance: Vetting Checks: includes referencing, a DBS check and a credit check. If you have any unspent criminal convictions or cautions in the UK or abroad, you MUST declare them to us at the time of applying. You will also need to tell us if you have any CCJs, IVA or Bankruptcies. All information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence and may determine if we can submit you for the position. Note: The Credit Check is because the hiring company sells financial products and is required by the Financial Conduct Authority to conduct this check. Substance Testing: The hiring company conducts a Substance Test during the training week at the academy as part of their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
