Our client, an international membership organisation, is seeking a strategic and experienced professional to lead their Professional Conduct function. This is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of professional conduct and disciplinary matters within a membership-based organisation. You will manage a small team and work closely with volunteer panels and legal advisers to ensure the integrity and professionalism of the membership community.

Key facts:

Contract : Part-time (21 hours per week), permanent

Location : Hybrid – home-based blended with 1-2 days per week working from offices in central London

Salary : ca £60,000 + benefits (pro-rated)

Working pattern : can be over 3 days, 4 days, or 5 days.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead the management of the complaints and disciplinary process, ensuring compliance with internal rules and external legal standards.
  • Provide expert advice on complex conduct cases and oversee the administration of the process.
  • Supervise and support the Professional Conduct team, ensuring efficient handling of complaints and queries.
  • Manage the work of disciplinary panels and boards, including recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteer members.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and recommend updates to conduct-related policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the appeals process and manage cases involving misrepresentation of membership or misuse of organisational branding.
  • Support external certification schemes by advising on complaints procedures and ensuring alignment with organisational standards.
  • Produce and disseminate guidance and updates on professional conduct matters to the wider membership.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Strong understanding of governance, codes of conduct, and disciplinary procedures within a professional or regulatory context.
  • Experience managing professional conduct or disciplinary functions, ideally within a membership or chartered organisation.
  • Proven ability to work with legal advisers, volunteers, and senior stakeholders with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex workloads independently and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in drafting formal documents, reports, and guidance materials.
