The Opportunity:

Roche is seeking a Therapeutic Area Leader for Dementias. Reporting to the SVP and Global Head of Neuroscience & Rare Diseases (NRD) at Roche pRED, the Therapeutic Area Leader will work closely and seamlessly with all departments within NRD including Research, Early Development, Biomarkers, Operations, and Portfolio Development, as well as with other organizations across pRED and Roche. The Therapeutic Area Leader will provide strategic and functional leadership of the cross-departmental network. Major responsibilities and accountabilities of the Therapeutic Area Leader will include:

  • Articulate and implement the strategy within the therapeutic area network
  • Establish an intellectual home for the Dementia network of pRED, aimed at ensuring the successful delivery of the portfolio in the therapeutic area from target assessment to completion of early clinical development
  • Foster interdepartmental collaborative efforts on the portfolio, assessment and selection of external Partnering opportunities
  • Critical advisory role for portfolio project teams
  • Coordination of initiatives and efforts in the therapeutic area across Roche
  • Anticipate new trends in research, technologies, and programs to help promote rigorous exploration of new targets and enhance the translatability of molecules from preclinical to clinical studies
  • The Therapeutic Area Leader will also serve as a member of the NRD Leadership Team (NLT) as well as the NRD Board
  • Represent NRD both internally and externally at conferences and international meetings as well as on joint advisory and governance bodies with external partners

In addition to providing leadership for the therapeutic area, the Therapeutic Area Leader will have the versatility to serve in embedded fashion in one of the NRD departments in a key capacity.

Who you are:

You will bring a PhD, or MD/PhD with expertise in Dementia and specifically experience in Alzheimer\’s, and at least 10 years of R&D experience including senior leadership in the pharmaceutical industry. Alternatively you will be a renowned leader in Dementia within academia, with a record of accomplishments in basic or clinical neuroscience and at least 10 years of experience as an independent investigator subsequent to postdoctoral training. Ideally, you will also have a strong track record of successfully translating molecules from discovery into the clinical setting, as well as an understanding of regulatory, payer, and commercial issues in the pharmaceutical industry.

In addition you will have demonstrated competencies in the following areas:

  • Scientific accomplishments: Significant scientific accomplishments, insights, and acumen. Strong record of success in research and clinical development efforts will be important as well as evidence of leadership in neuroscience
  • Collaborative leadership: Inspires diverse individuals to work together, persuades others to pursue innovative ideas and can work with a large number of partners across the organization with the aim of improving performance and meeting goals. Proven track record as a scientific negotiator with the ability to find win-win scenarios
  • Strategic leadership: Articulate strategic frameworks to inform operational delivery of the portfolio in Dementia. Ability to contribute strategic insights to prioritization and decision-making. Articulate long-term opportunities and threats in the therapeutic area, evaluate options, and take proactive steps to address them.
