The Position

The UK Country Therapeutic Area Leader is a senior leadership role responsible for driving both country and therapeutic area objectives. In this role, you will provide local leadership within the Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG) team, helping to shape strategic direction and ensure the successful delivery of clinical studies in the UK.

The cTAL is accountable for developing and executing the country TA strategy in alignment with global priorities, ensuring effective country delivery of studies, and performing country landscaping to support the pipeline. Effective stakeholder collaboration is critical, with a focus on proactive engagement with internal and external partners.

The Opportunity

As a key player in shaping the future of clinical operations at Roche, you will lead your team to achieve ambitious goals. You will develop and implement the country’s therapeutic area (TA) strategy, ensuring alignment with global priorities. Internally, this role is referred to as the Country Therapeutic Area Leader

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a member of the Country Leadership Team, sharing leadership with other heads and leaders.

  • Partnering with Clinical Operations Excellence and Country Performance and Analytics leaders to design and implement process improvement solutions that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Develop and implement country strategy, leading a high-performing team through collective leadership.

  • Taking accountability for the country\’s delivery of all clinical studies within your assigned therapeutic area, collaborating with Clinical Research Engagement Leaders (CRELs), Study Start Up Leads (SSULs), and CRO partners to meet timelines, quality and inclusive research standards.

  • Actively participate in the local site engagement community, collaborating with local Medical Affairs, Global Medical Collaboration Leads and other relevant functions

  • Conducting country landscaping activities to identify opportunities, assess the competitive environment, and support pipeline development.

  • Building and maintaining strong and meaningful relationships with a variety of external stakeholders, including clinical sites, investigator networks, and patient advocacy groups.

  • Driving department-wide engagement by fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and high performance while championing inclusion and belonging. Inspire, motivate, and develop talent within the team, ensuring a focus on individual growth and leadership development to build a strong, elevated talent pipeline aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Leading by example in demonstrating and championing inclusive behaviors in your team, PDG, PD, and the Roche Enterprise. Provide opportunities for growth and development for all team members and address any barriers that may exist.

  • People management-related administration (e.g. Workday People & Culture Management system tasks) and contact for employment-related matters.

You will also have the opportunity to lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and high performance while inspiring and developing talent.

Who you are

You are a strategic thinker with significant experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry, especially in product development. You have a strong grasp of end-to-end clinical trial processes and a solid knowledge of clinical trial regulations and guidelines.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • A degree (MD, PhD, MA/MS, BA/BS) in life sciences or equivalent, with a postgraduate or master\’s degree being highly desirable.

  • You have a strong experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

  • Proven leadership or line management experience, with a track record of coaching, motivating, and driving teams toward shared goals.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, allowing you to convey information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

  • A customer-centric mindset, focused on building positive, productive and authentic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • High adaptability and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

This role is based onsite at our Welwyn, United Kingdom office.
