Our client, a leading ship management company, is seeking a dedicated and experienced HSEQ Superintendent to oversee the HSEQ and operational aspects of their fleet of oil and chemical tankers. The successful candidate will be based in their Glasgow office and will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the vessels.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) management system in accordance with industry best practices and international regulations.
  • Oversee the safe operation of a fleet of oil and chemical tankers, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL).
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of vessels to verify compliance with HSEQ procedures and identify areas for improvement.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, analyze root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage and monitor vessel performance, including fuel efficiency, maintenance, and operational efficiency.
  • Liaise with flag states, port authorities, classification societies, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to vessel masters and crew.
  • Monitor and analyze industry trends and best practices to ensure the company remains at the forefront of HSEQ and operational excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs for seafarers.

Requirements:

  • A strong background in either a Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) role within a ship management company or as a Marine Superintendent.
  • Ideally, sailed to a senior rank (e.g., Master, Chief Engineer) on oil and chemical tankers.
  • Thorough knowledge of international maritime regulations and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree in a relevant maritime discipline.
  • Experience in conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Auditor qualifications (e.g., ISM, ISO).
