Practice Manager - Eyehut Opticians

Eyehut Opticians is seeking an organised, professional and motivated Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the practice.

The Practice Manager will be responsible for ensuring the practice operates efficiently, delivers excellent patient care and customer service, and achieves its commercial and operational objectives.

The practice Manager will be dispensing single vision and multi focal glasses, selling extra coatings such as mar, thinning and transitions.

The Practice Manager will also be responsible for training other staff on how to sell and dispense.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Eyehut practice.
  • Lead, supervise and support reception, optical and administrative staff.
  • Organise staff rotas, holidays and cover to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service and ensure patients receive a professional and welcoming experience.
  • Manage appointment schedules and help ensure the smooth running of optometrist clinics.
  • Handle patient enquiries, complaints and more complex customer service issues.
  • Monitor practice sales, revenue, costs and overall performance against agreed targets.
  • Support the team in achieving sales targets for frames, lenses, contact lenses and other optical products.
  • Manage stock levels, ordering and relationships with suppliers.
  • Oversee cash handling, payments, banking and basic practice financial administration.
  • Ensure patient records and confidential information are handled accurately and securely.
  • Ensure the practice complies with relevant optical, health and safety, data protection and company procedures.
  • Recruit, train, develop and motivate members of the practice team.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and address performance or disciplinary issues where necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, profitability and patient experience of the practice.
  • Maintain the appearance and professional standards of the practice.
  • Work closely with optometrists, dispensing opticians and the owners/directors of Eyehut.
  • Produce regular updates on practice performance, staffing, stock and any operational issues.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have

  • Previous management or supervisory experience, ideally within an opticians, healthcare, retail or customer-facing environment.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Good organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Confidence dealing with staff, patients and suppliers.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of sales and profitability.
  • Good IT and administrative skills.
  • The ability to remain organised and professional in a busy practice.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
  • Previous optical experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with strong management experience.
