The opportunity

Advising clients on their most complex sustainable infrastructure challenges is a core focus for EY and spans multiple sectors and competencies. We are focussed on growing our sustainable infrastructure programme and large‑scale transformation delivery across a wide range of clients in sectors including government, transport, energy and utilities, housing and telecommunications. We want people who are passionate about sustainability and climate change and who are keen to help clients realise decarbonisation and energy‑transition ambitions. We look to grow our overall presence across the infrastructure sector and be involved in the design, development and delivery of significant programmes under the recently published UK Infrastructure 10 Year Strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Active member of the wider leadership team to define project scope and execute delivery with clients, consulting teams and wider stakeholders.
  • Independently analyse complex problems and present solutions to clients and the wider team.
  • Own and manage relationships with senior infrastructure clients to contribute to business development and enhance EY’s brand and reputation.
  • Structure and manage projects and programmes of transformation.
  • Manage project commercials, risks and issues.
  • Bring expertise from previous experience to test, shape and challenge our approaches to project delivery.
  • Lead teams and develop our people to help them reach their potential.
  • Build strong relationships, especially with peers and leaders from client organisations and across the EY network.
  • Build our business and generate profitable revenue by winning work through fostering strong client relationships, account leadership and leading/contributing to proposals.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to expand our People Consulting service and infrastructure service offerings to clients and positively impact client engagements.
  • Keep up to date on relevant infrastructure market trends, key functional and technical skills and proactively share this knowledge with the infrastructure community.
  • Be an active leader in the EY Workforce Advisory Community and the EY UK&I Infrastructure Community, assist with the integration and inclusion of team members and operate as part of a high‑performing team.
  • Visibly demonstrate our values through day‑to‑day behaviours and challenge where these are not demonstrated in others.
  • Contribute to EY’s positioning across the UK (and global) infrastructure market through an active social media presence and thought‑leadership development.

Skills And Attributes For Success

  • Strong understanding of, and interest in, the UK Infrastructure sector including HMG commitments such as the National Infrastructure Strategy and the Ten‑Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and climate change challenges across industries.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following sectors: Energy, Government, Transport, Power and Utilities.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience in managing the commercial side of projects.
  • Expertise in business development, including identifying opportunities, shaping and selling propositions and contributing to pipeline development.
  • Passionate about working with clients to find people‑centred solutions.
  • Be professional, quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure to deliver pragmatic solutions that are acceptable to all stakeholders.
  • Comfortable leading in a virtual environment – both with the team and with clients.
  • Curious, confident and able to think creatively, using agile methods and innovative approaches to tackle complex problems and deliver insightful, practical and sustainable solutions.
  • High emotional intelligence, able to build trusted relationships through effective communication and stakeholder management, including the ability to empathise, actively listen, identify non‑verbal cues and translate client needs into actions.
  • Inclusive, encouraging collaboration among team members, nurturing and encouraging talent to improve capability, especially amongst more junior members.

To qualify for the role, you will need:

  • This role is available in our EY London, Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds offices.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Minimum eight years of professional experience either within the infrastructure sector or in a consultancy role leading complex organisational design transformations and end‑to‑end business change.
  • Able to manage the client change and organisation design journey by developing and delivering digital and/or organisational strategies supported by integrated change experience and organisation design roadmaps and business cases.
  • Demonstrable commercial management skills and acumen across large programmes, including contribution to account growth, pipeline development and sales activity.
  • Able to turn complex quantitative and qualitative data analysis into a compelling narrative to support project delivery.
  • Strong leadership – be able to anticipate and manage potential issues during client assignments, providing visible thought leadership internally and with clients.
  • Lead by example and actively demonstrate professionalism and the ability to rapidly establish personal credibility to make a strong personal impact.
  • Proactively build relationships and manage client stakeholders, including providing robust advice, delivering difficult messages and managing performance issues.
  • Deliver effective organisational design and change management to enable/enhance workforce performance, engagement and well‑being.
  • Contribute to market‑facing thought‑leadership, insights and points of view that support EY’s growth agenda and differentiate our propositions.
  • Strong insight into one or more of the following: Government & Infrastructure Sector, Energy & Assets, Consumer Products, Technology & Communications.
  • Knowledge of/experience in any of the following technologies and their organisational implications: ERP systems (e.g., SAP Solutions Suite (SAP S/4Hana preferred), Microsoft Dynamics). Emerging technologies (e.g., AI, Big Data, RPA, IoT, Blockchain) and enabling software (e.g., Blue Prism). Other “people” experience enhancement technologies and providers.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience of leading design thinking and human‑centred design methods.
  • A strong awareness of the latest infrastructure industry and technology trends.
  • Project Management skills (Microsoft Project/Prince 2).
  • An understanding on how Agentic AI can add value to businesses and the infrastructure sector.
