Senior Associate – Finance Business Advisor
The Finance Business Advisor, internally known as the Mercury Business Advisor (MBA), is a experienced finance professional with comprehensive knowledge of systems, processes, and policies. This role is pivotal in providing specialized advice to optimize the financial aspects of our engagements and collaborating with other departments to tackle business challenges. Please note that this is an internal finance support role assisting our client-serving teams and is not focused on technical accounting.
Opportunity Overview
The Finance Business Advisor (MBA) is crucial in advising and supporting our client-serving teams to make the most of our financial system, Mercury, and its processes for effective engagement management with EY\'s external clients. The role encompasses two primary functions:
- Offering immediate financial advisory support to engagement teams through various technological channels (online chat, phone, or ticketing system).
- Proactively reaching out to engagement teams to instil a robust culture of financial awareness and responsibility, especially where financial risks are flagged by exception reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively engage with client teams based on report analysis, ensuring all financial queries are comprehensively resolved to mitigate risks.
- Efficiently handle prevent controls tickets, escalating as needed.
- Dedicate time to respond to inquiries via our On demand support services, including tasks such as:
- Reviewing pricing and engagement budgeting.
- Clarifying the financial implications of engagement structures and budgets.
- Guiding on estimate-to-complete (ETC) processes/ policies and their financial consequences.
- Upholding the highest standards and best practices for On-Demand services.
- Assisting with billing, engagement setup, risk management, and local policy queries.
- Conduct training for client-serving teams on the financial system Mercury and financial best practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and supporting team members across borders and service lines, always leveraging leading practices.
- Make informed decisions to provide client servers with prompt and accurate responses, aiming for one-stop resolution or effective redirection to functional experts.
- Manage interactions with new users, addressing their lack of knowledge or frustration, and guiding them to the best outcome using strong soft skills.
- Prepare for client server portfolio discussions by leveraging system and finance expertise, making judgments on topics and their prioritization, and knowing when to consult other functional experts.
- A professional demeanour with empathy for the client server perspective.
- Confidence to challenge when necessary.
- Strong analytical, numerical skills with a focus on accuracy and detail utilising the Microsoft suite of tools effectively
- Excellent time management skills, prioritizing tasks based on risk, importance, and urgency.
- A quick learner who is proactive and eager to share knowledge.
- Ability to translate technical jargon into business-relevant terms.
- Effective listening skills to provide targeted advice and the judgment to escalate when needed.

- Communicate effectively, conveying urgency and driving mutual understanding professionally.

- At least two years of experience in a client-driven professional environment within a financial/business capacity.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management and exceptional client service delivery.

- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships at all firm levels.
