The Private Tax team at EY acts for a wide range of entrepreneurial, owner managed, PE backed and AIM listed businesses together with their shareholders and management teams, in addition to family offices, private equity and hedge fund principals, large-landed estates and high-profile professional partnerships. We aim to be trusted advisers to our clients and deliver a broad range of tax advisory services, including cash tax savings and value creation, reorganisations, international tax advisory, transactions and ongoing maintenance of the tax structure of our clients.
The team is a mix of advisers providing corporate and personal tax services to these businesses, their owners and management. The services that we deliver include advice to private equity houses and other sponsors and their investee companies on the structuring of management incentive plans both on a transaction and post transaction, advice to management teams themselves, advice to owner managers and founders on the occasion of a transaction, due diligence exercises on employee share ownership and option plans and the structuring and reporting of management incentive plans. Our client base is a mix of private equity and other funds, private companies and individuals. Our international network results in our team undertaking a high proportion of cross border tax services.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join EY’s specialist Management Taxes and Transactions team based in London, Manchester, Glasgow or Edinburgh. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with our excellent existing clients and intermediaries, providing a great opportunity to build and expand their network and be instrumental in winning new business. Ideally candidates will have a knowledge of the issues impacting management teams; however, candidates without specific management taxes knowledge are also encouraged to apply given the wide and diverse nature of the role and team that you would be working in. We have successfully integrated individuals from private client, employment taxes and corporate tax backgrounds in the past.
Your key responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships with clients
- Proactive business development to win new work
- Management of the successful delivery of technically complex and demanding consulting projects for their clients, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken
- Provision of development support to junior members of the team through effective supervision, coaching and mentoring
- Contribution to people initiatives, including retaining and training our team
Skills and attributes for success:

- Strong tax technical skills
- Strong client relationship management skills with ability to develop quality outputs to clients
- Negotiation skills, able to sustain opinion and handle challenges
- Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
- Effective time management, ability to remain calm when under pressure to meet deadlines
- Excellent communicator in a range of situations both written and oral
- Good knowledge of advising a range of individuals and/or companies including AIM listed, PE backed, Family Owned and OMB or experience in implementing management incentive plans or share options plans.
To qualify for the role you must have:
- ACA / CTA / Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training course / Law qualification / Tax specialist qualification / or breadth of knowledge equivalent to a Tax specialist qualification
- Strong tax technical skills
- Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
- Experience of coaching and developing more junior staff
Ideally you’ll also have:
- Project management skills, plan and prioritize work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
- Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically
