Join Our Tax Controversy and Risk Management (TCRM) Team at EY!

Our TCRM team is one of the largest dispute resolution teams in the UK, combining extensive expertise in tax dispute resolution, litigation, and risk management within EY's broader International Tax and Transaction Services practice. We have exciting plans for further expansion in the coming years and are seeking passionate individuals eager to contribute to our ambitious objectives and help shape our future success. The Opportunity

Our team assists businesses in navigating complex tax controversies and engaging proactively with HMRC, integrating broad technical knowledge with dispute resolution techniques. We are experts in our field and foster a collaborative team culture across our Tax business.

As a tax controversy-focused professional, you will help clients manage tax disputes to resolution, support proactive HMRC engagement, and play a key role in evaluating and mitigating tax risk. Experience working with large multi-national organisations will be beneficial to your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting in the delivery of tax controversy projects, ensuring technical and commercial excellence.
  • Liaise with clients and coordinate with the wider tax and client account team regarding engagements.
  • Drive activities to achieve effective tax outcomes and certainty for clients.
  • Support the preparation of SAO certification and tax strategy for publication and assist clients in preparing for Business Risk Review discussions.

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Broad experience in corporate tax compliance or advisory, with a desire to focus on controversy and dispute resolution.
  • Previous tax controversy experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong tax technical skills and a keen interest in further development.
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret tax statutes and deliver quality output.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, conduct effective reviews, and know when to escalate issues.
  • Interest in ongoing learning and innovation, including the use of technology and AI tools to improve processes.

To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have

  • ACA/CA/ACCA/CTA (or equivalent) with experience in a corporate tax-focused role; or Tax Inspector experience with full Technical Training Course (IDP/TPDP/TSP, etc.) – Grade 7 or above (for roles at Manager and above)

Ideally, You'll Also Have

  • Current experience in tax controversy or corporate tax, with an interest in developing a specialism in tax controversy.
  • A proactive approach to professional development and a desire to expand your expertise.
