EY Capital & Debt Advisory is seeking a Director to join its market‑leading team to support with deal origination and execution. The team has a strong reputation, regularly closing high‑profile transactions across the UK and internationally and recently retained the title of Best Financial Advisor for Corporates at the Global Capital Syndicated Loan Awards. We advise sovereign, private equity, corporate, not‑for‑profit and entrepreneurial clients on debt‑related matters, including refinancings, acquisition and growth financings across the bank, credit fund, ABL and capital markets and currently have a healthy book of live deals and near‑term opportunities.
In joining our team, you will be expected to play a key role in supporting our growth plans, with strong career progression opportunities, as Capital & Debt Advisory is an integral part of EY’s Strategy and Transactions business, Parthenon. The role provides an exceptional regionally‑based candidate the opportunity to work within a high‑performing team. Whilst you will be based regionally, you will be a key part of the national and international Capital & Debt Advisory business, supporting our clients wherever they are based, providing great exposure to a wide range of transactions and financing markets.
Your key responsibilities
- Managing and working as part of a team on projects from start to finish covering all transaction stages from initial proposal right through to completion.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients and all stakeholders during a transaction process on day‑to‑day matters.
- Overseeing the work of project teams and coordinating various work streams, liaising with and managing various stakeholders on transactions including key client contacts, lenders and other advisors.
- Leading and managing the delivery of high‑quality transaction documentation, including the preparation of information packs, management presentations, term sheets, structuring and financial analysis and other project deliverables.
- Financial modelling, including analysing business forecasts, undertaking and evaluating scenario analysis, building financing overlays and covenant calculations.
- Supporting business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities, the production of high‑quality collateral, developing pitch documents and attending meetings with clients and prospects.
- Coaching and contributing to the development of more junior team members.
- Further developing your own business network.
Skills and attributes for success
- Significant experience of working in debt finance or debt advisory, including playing a lead role in day‑to‑day management of projects, including preparation of information packs, management presentations, financial analysis, term sheets and client communications.
- Strong experience with financial modelling related to debt transactions.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, developing close working relationships with clients, lenders and other advisors.
- Assisting Partners and other members of the team with targeting, marketing and preparation of proposal materials, as well as client coverage.
- Proactively building and developing a network of internal and external relationships amongst professional intermediaries, private equity houses, corporate targets and clients.
- Experience and understanding of different debt markets, including various market conventions and parameters and being able to clearly articulate these to clients, as well as the ability to challenge conventions to develop tailored solutions and flexibly adapt as transactions evolve.
- Demonstrate confidence in client situations, gaining client acceptance and demonstrating value through advice and insight, providing tailored, bespoke solutions.
- Sound commercial judgement and an ability to generate creative solutions to problems and think on your feet.
- Demonstrate strong financial acumen and a solid understanding of financial statements.
- Agility to convert analysis into various outputs (including outputs used to support board level conversations), to present results in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to manage and develop more junior team members.
- Strong time management skills, including informing the team of progress and highlighting any issues (as appropriate).
Extensive experience working in debt advisory, banking or a related field, operating in a deal‑related environment. An enthusiasm for business development, client coverage and being a face to market on behalf of the team. Strong organisational and project management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills. Proven team player and ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, organisations and clients. Ability to manage tight deadlines.
