EY’s market leading Transaction Strategy and Execution (TSE) team provides operations advice to corporate and private equity firms who intend to acquire, divest, restructure or improve the operational performance of businesses. What makes us different is that we actively seek to recruit people with direct industry experience who can complement our team members who come from advisory backgrounds. The transition towards a sustainable future is creating unprecedented opportunities across the whole energy value chain from the type of commodities mining and minerals (M&M) companies extract, the energy oil and gas (O&G) companies supply, and the renewables infrastructure power and utilities (P&U) companies operate resulting in corporate restructuring and the divestment and acquisition of businesses operating in these sectors. We are looking for professionals to join our successful team with experience in these sectors and a desire to develop their careers in the context of value creation through transactions or restructuring.
The opportunity
We work on the most complex and high profile global transactions, across a broad portfolio of clients and industry sectors. Our focus is on supporting businesses through the transaction lifecycle, ranging from sell side support to a business divesting assets or buyside support for a business acquiring and integrating new assets, our focus on transaction excellence enables us to bring a wealth of deep sector and functional knowledge to our clients.
As a team, we prepare and execute separation and integration plans, identify ideas and sources of value enhancement, as well as advise on risk mitigation and the successful change of operations, functions and people.
We are looking for energy sector professionals to deliver Operational Due Diligence and Value Creation projects for our Private Equity and Corporate clients and, working closely with our network of Energy sector specialists across EY, to assist in new business origination and support the continuous development of our Energy sector team.
Key Responsibilities
You\’ll advise clients primarily across the Energy sector but also adjacent sectors, support key decision makers in developing and executing strategies for transactions. You will also be expected to develop experience across a range of different type of engagements, including pre-deal (e.g. operational and IT due diligence, carve-out planning), post-deal (e.g. integration planning, tracking) and restructuring (e.g. rapid cost reduction). Having a commercial mind-set is key to this consulting- based role.

- Project Management – lead a dynamic and evolving project team comprising of colleagues from one or more of our transactions and advisory practices
- Business and Commercially Aware – using your sector experience set the direction for client engagements and identify opportunity areas for the team to assess that add value to our client’s businesses
- Business Development – use your sector experience to develop relationships across EY and industry to identify opportunities, support business origination, including development of pitch and presentation material, and attending meetings with clients to help sell work. Contribute to our practice development initiatives, supporting the continued focus on our team as a great place to work
- Learning – Learn and develop technical and personal skills to support achievement of career goals, through a blend of structured learning, coaching and experiences and support o fast-paced
- Supporting Others – when opportunities arise, support other members of the team to increase their sector knowledge
- Building Relationships – Strong working relationships with senior clients, including influence, advice and support to key decision makers
To qualify for the role you must have
- Energy sector: significant operational and general business experience gained across multiple profit and cost centres within one of the M&M, O&G, P&U or service sector businesses
In addition to the above, specialism in all of these areas:
- Professional services / consulting with a recognised industry participant or as an independent contractor
- Transactions: ideally due diligence, carve-out or integration experience; or
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to link operational performance analysis to financial outcomes, gained in either a day to day operational or a strategic commercial or business development role, and understand the implications of findings to client strategy
- Organisational change: experience of participating or leading performance improvement or organisational change initiatives within a corporate environment including planning and execution of the activity
Ideally you’ll also have
- Broad business experience having worked in at least two different operational, corporate, trading/customer marketing and technical (Engineering, R&D, HSSE) businesses
- Experience of delivering high-quality reports and presentations to senior level leaders
- Strong team leadership skills, particularly in leading teams with diverse skills and backgrounds, coupled with the ability to coach and mentor juniors
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong work initiative and the ability to adapt to new challenges and ideas
- Professionalism and consistency in approach to client work, internal business, and practice development projects
