The opportunity
The EY Corporate Finance M&A practice is an innovative, award-winning team, regularly closing high profile cross-border sell-side, buy-side and finance raising transactions, supporting a range of clients from high growth businesses to multinational listed companies.
Our dynamic and diverse team consists of c. 100 individuals of varying professional backgrounds, including bankers, accountants, industry professionals and consultants. Working with us will entail both formal and on the job learning from sector experts, which will help you to develop the skills needed to become an effective advisor.
This is a rare opportunity for a candidate to join a market-leading, entrepreneurial team working across a range of sectors based in the Birmingham office. This is an exciting time to join a growing EY-Parthenon, Strategy and Transactions advisory, team in the Midlands. This is a particularly significant year for EY in the region with our move to a brand-new office in the Paradise development in the autumn. Whilst we’re looking for the right person to join our Birmingham based M&A team, there is also the opportunity to work in transactions across the wider EY M&A practice.
Key highlights of the local M&A team include a range of private equity and cross-border transactions, notably:
- Sale of a leading K-12 schools’ group to a large-cap, European private equity house
- Sale of Midlands based, premium office furniture brand, Boss Design to Japanese listed Okamura
- Acquisition of InTime Logistik by Priority Freight
- Sale of Euro Food Brands to management backed by NatWest
- Sale of Ritter Courivaud, as a carve-out from Tesco/Booker Plc to Musgrave Group
- Sale of Adare SEC to Mail Metrics backed by MML.
Your key responsibilities
- Support in the preparation of transaction marketing materials and other client deliverables
- Valuation analysis and calculation using market practice methodology, including undertaking sensitivity/scenario analysis; analysis of financial data
- Deal management and management of key stakeholders on projects, including other advisors
- Commercial and financial advice on key contracts forming part of the transaction, and negotiation with project stakeholders
- Support in the development and maintenance of client relationships, including pitch/proposal preparation, presentation to clients, origination and marketing initiatives and account pursuit
Skills and attributes for success
What we look for:
- High degree of personal drive and motivation to enhance your own knowledge and succeed
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Highly competent in Microsoft Office
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills (financial modelling capability is also favoured)
- Ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, organisations and clients
- Ability to work under pressure, handling multiple projects and to tight deadlines
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Prior experience of working in and/or a passion for M&A
- Commitment to business development and the ability to identify new business opportunities
- Strong academic track record and educated to degree level
- Advanced professional financial qualification (e.g. ACA, CFA, MBA), ideally with first time passes
