The opportunity
The team combines lead advisory and restructuring capability to help financial services clients make and execute critical strategic, financing and transaction decisions. Our approach brings together sector knowledge, independent advice, rigorous analysis and hands-on execution.
We are seeking a versatile lead advisory professional to join our Financial Services Lead Advisory and Restructuring team. The role combines broad corporate finance capability with a clear focus on debt advisory and debt raising for banks, specialist lenders and other financial services companies. The successful candidate will advise clients across the full financing lifecycle and support wider lead advisory and restructuring assignments where relevant.
You will lead complex financing processes, provide senior judgement on funding and transaction strategy, and act as a trusted adviser to boards, shareholders and management teams. You will lead pitches, convert opportunities, deepen relationships with lenders and investors, and develop the team's market profile. Independent origination is not a requirement, but strong commercial awareness and an active contribution to business development are expected.
Client and Financing Focus
- Banks, including challenger and specialist banks; specialist and non-bank lenders; and other financial services companies.
- Senior and subordinated debt; asset-backed and warehouse facilities; securitisation and forward-flow arrangements; private credit; and refinancing and recapitalisations.
Your key responsibilities
- Lead debt advisory and debt raising assignments from strategic assessment through execution and closing.
- Advise on debt capacity, funding strategy, capital structure, refinancing options and alternative financing solutions.
- Shape transaction strategy and workplans, identifying commercial, financial, regulatory and execution issues early.
- Lead and review financial models, lender and investor materials, information memoranda, presentations and board papers.
- Direct engagement with banks, private credit funds, institutional investors and other capital providers, including competitive processes.
- Lead evaluation and negotiation of financing proposals and term sheets through documentation and closing.
- Own senior day-to-day client relationships and communicate clear, practical recommendations.
- Lead pitches and convert opportunities into mandates in collaboration with partners and the wider firm.
- Develop lender, investor and adviser relationships; coach the team; and contribute to market insight and proposition development.
- Support wider lead advisory and restructuring assignments, including M&A-related financing and special situations.
Skills and attributes for success
- 8-10 years of relevant experience, primarily in a debt advisory or corporate finance boutique, or a Big Four lead advisory or restructuring practice.
- A strong record of leading debt raising or refinancing processes and delivering complex transactions to completion.
- Broad lead advisory capability and strong knowledge of financial services business models and credit dynamics.
- Practical experience across several relevant products, including structured and asset-backed funding solutions.
- Excellent financial analysis and modelling skills, with the ability to translate analysis into clear advice.
- Credibility with board and senior management stakeholders and confidence engaging capital providers and advisers.
- Strong commercial judgement, pitch leadership, opportunity conversion and team development capability.
- Clear communication, collaborative leadership and consistently high standards of quality and integrity.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Financial or operational restructuring, stressed financing or special situations.
- Bank balance sheet, capital, liquidity or regulatory considerations relevant to financing strategy.
- M&A execution, acquisition financing, strategic options analysis or sector-focused proposition development.
