The HVAC Design Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, and development of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for various types of buildings. The role ensures that HVAC systems are energy-efficient, sustainable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards. The engineer works closely with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions.
Key Accountabilities:- Design HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment layout.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software.
- Select HVAC equipment and prepare technical specifications.
- Develop detailed design drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, Awe Standards, Sellafield Standards and energy regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct site visits for inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare cost estimates and support procurement processes.
- Integrate sustainable and energy-efficient design practices.
- Stay updated with emerging HVAC technologies and industry trends.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Master’s degree (preferred but not required).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it.
- CIBSE membership, or equivalent professional affiliations.
- Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Hevacomp).
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM workflows.
- Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles.
