What role you will play in our team

As a Fuel Oil Analyst, you will sit at the core of our Fuel Oil trading operations, providing high quality market analysis, actionable insights, and strategic support to the European trading team. You will collaborate closely with traders, senior analysts, and data/technology partners to interpret global fuel oil fundamentals, track physical and paper flows, and identify evolving market dislocations across regions and grades.

What you will do

Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Analytics & Market Leadership
    • Lead analytical coverage for High Sulfur Fuel Oil, Low Sulfur Fuel Oil, and other feedstocks, shaping market views across key trading regions.
    • Develop and maintain cross regional perspectives, supporting multi desk trading strategies.
  • Fundamentals, Balances & Forecasting
    • Build and maintain global and regional Fuel Oil supply, demand, and blending models.
    • Track refinery runs, crack spreads, residue production, desulfurization trends, bunker demand, and utilities consumption.
    • Forecast balances and identify market dislocations using proprietary data, third party sources, vessel tracking, and refinery databases.
  • Trading Strategy Support
    • Collaborate with traders to assess market risks and opportunities.
    • Deliver timely insights via dashboards, weekly presentations, and structured strategy discussions.
    • Propose trade ideas grounded in market fundamentals, flows, and structural trends.
  • Data Infrastructure & Visualization
    • Build and maintain data pipelines and analytical tools in SQL, Python, Excel, and Power BI.
    • Partner with developers to enhance data ingestion, querying performance, and automation for real-time analytics.
  • Reporting & Communication
    • Prepare weekly and monthly market reports, lead discussions on macroeconomic trends, and present market views to senior stakeholders across trading and management teams.
  • Cross-functional & Global Collaboration
    • Liaise with global trading offices in Houston and Singapore to align market views and support portfolio decisions.
    • Engage with physical and derivative desks to ensure a holistic understanding of market dynamics.

What you bring

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A degree in Economics, Engineering, Data Science, Finance, or a similar quantitative field.
  • Proven experience in Fuel Oil or feedstocks market analytics—preferably within a trading or commercial environment.
  • Strong understanding of global fuel oil flows, refining systems, bunker markets, and commodity pricing mechanisms.
  • Technical proficiency in SQL, Python, Excel, and Power BI for analytics and visualization.
  • Experience developing supply/demand models and trading dashboards.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex analytical insights clearly.
  • A proactive, detail‑oriented mindset, thriving in fast-paced, high-pressure trading environments.
  • Exposure to trading, physical cargo operations, and refinery economics is highly desirable.
