With a long history of industry leadership and cutting-edge innovation, we are committed to addressing the dual challenge facing society today: meeting the world's growing demand for energy while reducing environmental impacts, including climate change. We are looking for passionate individuals with a creative and innovative mindset to drive change in our business, and who enjoy working in dynamic, collaborative, and diverse global teams. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting worker health through exposure monitoring, noise and ventilation assessments, technical reporting, and programme verification activities.

Using your expertise and judgement to address both routine and emerging challenges, you will help shape the future direction of industrial hygiene across the UK business and contribute to global health initiatives that drive continuous improvement and best practice worldwide.

About you

What you will do:

  • Protect and enhance workforce health by identifying, assessing, and controlling occupational exposure risks across a complex industrial environment.
  • Deliver and continuously improve the Industrial Hygiene Annual Plan, ensuring high-quality monitoring and risk assessment activities aligned with business priorities.
  • Apply specialist expertise in exposure monitoring, noise assessment, ventilation evaluation, and hazard recognition to support informed decision-making.
  • Generate actionable insights through the analysis and interpretation of industrial hygiene data, driving evidence-based improvements in health risk management.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor, collaborating with operational leadership, health professionals, and emergency response teams.
  • Maintain excellence in Industrial Hygiene equipment, laboratory operations, and monitoring methodologies to ensure reliable and defensible results.
  • Champion continuous improvement and innovation in occupational health programmes, influencing hygiene strategy and standards across the UK organisation.
  • Contribute to regional and global health initiatives, helping shape best practices and advance the company's commitment to protecting worker health worldwide.

What we are looking for:

  • We're seeking an industrial hygiene professional who combines technical expertise with a passion for protecting worker health and influencing positive change.
  • This role is based at Fawley Refinery & Chemicals plant in Hampshire.
  • Professional membership of BOHS or an equivalent internationally recognised occupational hygiene organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in occupational exposure assessment, industrial hygiene monitoring, and health risk management.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence working across all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience managing and interpreting exposure data to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to balance independent working and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and advancing best practices in occupational hygiene.
  • Flexibility to support occasional business travel and emergency response activities when required.

While not essential, the following would help you make an immediate impact:

  • Degree qualification in Occupational/Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience within the petrochemical, energy, or other major industrial sectors.
  • Knowledge of Safety, Health & Environment management systems and occupational health risk programmes.
  • Interest in leveraging data and digital tools, including Power BI, to enhance exposure analysis and decision-making.
  • Willingness to support offshore, international, and cross-business activities.
  • A desire to continuously develop technical expertise and contribute to the advancement of occupational hygiene best practice.
  • Interest in engaging with regional or global occupational health initiatives and industry networks.
