About us
ExxonMobil has operated in the U.K. for more than 135 years. We are best known today for the marketing of our Esso fuels and Mobil 1 lubricants and for our petrochemicals. We have refining and chemical operations in the UK, we operate the UK’s biggest private pipeline network and we retain a non-operated share in a number of fields in the North Sea. More recently, we are developing our involvement in lower emission projects in the UK, building on our experience in carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen production and biofuels.
The current opportunity is for experienced Freight Trader/s (Charterer/s) to join our Global Freight Trading Team, based in Central London, United Kingdom. We have multiple Freight Commodity Desks including Term (S&P), Crude and Products and invite candidates with experience in any of these to apply.

What role will you play in our team
As a Freight Trader within ExxonMobil, you will be an integral part of the Global Trading organization. If successful you will be responsible for developing freight strategies that generate value from the market and leverage our own portfolio. You will act as a key interface in the Freight Market in addition to interacting constantly with our operations and analytics teams in the evaluation of opportunities and portfolio risk.
What you will do
- Develop commercial strategies for in and out-chartering vessels as required
- Seek out and develop value accretive opportunities within both the paper (FFA) and physical Freight Trading space
- Optimize the utilization of our portfolio of Time Charter vessels to maximize earnings
- Leverage your knowledge, experience and contacts to support the development of our Freight Trading organization
- Advise our Trading teams on how to utilize Freight Trading strategies to gain competitive advantage and create value
- Provide insights to our Analytics team to continuously improve our forecasts and decision making
- Ensure all Freight Trading activities are in compliance with internal risk governance policies/procedures, and are accurately captured in reporting infrastructure.
About you
- Be educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a numeric discipline e.g. Engineering, Science, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics (or relevant work experience underpinned by strong P&L performance)
- Have previous Freight Trading experience, focused predominantly on evaluating, optimizing and trading physical and paper freight in global markets
- Have a demonstrable track record in the freight market including new opportunity development
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to establish broker/asset contacts to generate new business opportunities
- Have a track record of positive P&L generation
- Possess a strong understanding of risk management principles and tools
- Have strong commercial acumen, an entrepreneurial mind-set, analytical/IT skills, and take accountability for your results and contributions to the team
- Possess a broad range of personal effectiveness and leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate and influence business decisions in a multi-cultural team environment
- Have fluent English language skills (written and spoken), with additional language skills being desirable.
