Extracellular is a Bristol based start-up aiming to be a global leader in sustainable biotechnology.
We’re channeling expertise in biology, digitalisation and biomanufacturing to accelerate cultivated meat and seafood as a sustainable, ethical source of protein. We’re building really cool development and scale-up capabilities, which we’ll use to help dozens of companies hit their R&D targets, and we’re going to try to save the planet!
You need to be passionate about making a difference, and you’ll be supporting a team to achieve exciting goals.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced process development engineer or scientist, with a rich skillset and expertise in developing scalable bioprocesses.
You will be leading a wide range of projects focused on optimising culture processes for cellular agriculture, with the aim of making commercial manufacturing processes more efficient and sustainable. You will be working with everything from adherent to suspension cultures; microbial to mammalian; primary to iPSCs. You don’t need to be an expert in all, but you need to be able to adapt your skillset to each given challenge.
We have bioreactor capabilities from 1L to 200L, and we’ll be going bigger (to provide large quantities of biomass) and smaller (to do high throughput screening and optimisation). You’ll need to have a holistic understanding of the process, from the raw materials to the final product.
You’ll need to have a vision to push the boundaries of what’s possible, developing methods to develop and screen processes faster and more efficiently than most biotech companies could only dream of. It’ll be a team effort, and you’ll be working with experts in biology and digitalisation alongside your expertise in biomanufacturing to achieve these goals.
This Role Will Utilise Your Skills Or Understanding In
- Process development and high throughput development methods.
- Mammalian and microbial cell culture requirements across various scales and methodologies.
- Leading a team of people to deliver project goals.
- Safe working practices in a life science lab.
The Candidate Profile
- You will likely have 5-10 years of experience working in process development, but we value quality of experience over quantity.
- You’ll have experience being a leader (not necessarily line management).
- You’ll need excellent organisational skills and a great attention to detail.
- You’ll need to be a genuine team-player who asks for help when it’s needed and offers help when it isn’t.
- You’ll need to be comfortable with ambiguity and proactive in finding ways to move forward. You’ll see failure as a learning opportunity.
Opportunities
- A generous employee option scheme will be available.
- As an early stage start-up with high growth potential, there will be progression opportunities available to suit your career ambitions.
- Training will be offered, in line with your personal and professional development goals.
