The Role
We're looking for an enthusiastic research scientist with experience in mammalian cell cultures. You will be carrying out experiments focused on optimising culture processes for cultivated meat, aiming to make commercial manufacturing processes more efficient and sustainable. This might involve media optimisation and cell line development work, including isolating primary cells from biopsies. You'll be working with a range of cell types, from mesenchymal cells to immortalised suspension cells to iPSCs.
The role will be lab-based and will utilise your skills or understanding in:
- Mammalian cell culture using aseptic techniques, including cell isolations.
- Bioreactor principles for mammalian cultures.
- Molecular biology, including transfections and gene editing using CRISPR.
- Analytical techniques including qPCR, flow cytometry, ELISAs and other basic analytical techniques.
- Experimental design, data analysis and report writing.
- Safe working practices in a life science lab.
The Candidate Profile
You will have experience working with adherent and/or suspension mammalian cells. You'll need excellent organisational skills and great attention to detail. You'll need to be a genuine team player who asks for help when needed and offers help when it isn't. You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity and proactive in finding ways to move forward. You'll see failure as a learning opportunity.
