ExTrac is a young, dynamic, and high-growth scale-up. We help people and companies make better decisions around the risks and opportunities of geopolitical events using open source and publicly available data. By building products that combine expertise across the humanities and sciences, we bring together data, AI, and domain expertise.
We are looking for a highly capable senior analyst to track global developments—particularly across the Middle East—focusing on political dynamics, security trends, and extremist threats. In this role, you will be responsible for producing timely, high-quality analysis; identifying emerging risks and threat narratives; and leading on daily and in-depth reporting. You will also monitor new and existing actors for data curation and support multilingual content processing.
Success in this role requires independent management of multiple workstreams, a methodical approach to online ecosystems, and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues. Candidates should have a proven background in intelligence or international security. We value individuals who are proactive, meticulous, and collaborative, with strong communication skills. Proficiency in written Arabic is essential. Familiarity with disinformation networks or analytical frameworks (e.g., the PHIA Yardstick) is highly desirable.
Required Qualifications- At least two years of professional experience in intelligence analysis, disinformation analysis, open-source research, data analytics, strategic communications, international security, international relations, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of the Middle East, including key actors, political, social, and information and regional dynamics.
- Strong working knowledge of violent extremist organisations (VEOs) and extremist ecosystems across the Middle East, Africa, and globally.
- Native-level fluency in Arabic with strong command of Levantine dialects; able to translate, summarise, and interpret Arabic-language content accurately and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to collect, tag, and curate large datasets from open sources, social media platforms, and messaging applications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in translation, data entry, and source verification.
- Excellent written English and strong communication skills, with a record of producing clear, high-quality outputs and concise summaries of Arabic content under pressure.
- Experience applying methodological frameworks to online ecosystems (e.g., topic modelling, sentiment analysis, network analysis, OSINT).
- Experience supporting research or analytical projects in conflict or security-related contexts.
- Ability to manage deadlines, prioritise tasks, and maintain consistency across data-driven workflows.
- Proactive, collaborative, and eager to learn new analytical methods and contribute to wider ExTrac projects.
- Familiarity with data science and AI/OSINT platforms.
- Proficiency in one or more relevant languages (e.g., French, Farsi).
- Familiarity with the PHIA Yardstick and UK government analytical standards.
- Exposure to designing or operationalising threat severity matrices.
- Monitor and assess global political, security, and socio-economic developments globally, with a primary focus on the Middle East.
- Monitor and flag new actors for the purpose of data curation.
- Support the research team's production of daily, weekly, monthly, flash, and deep-dive reporting covering the whole globe.
- Conduct daily monitoring of Arabic and English media, including news outlets, social media, and official statements.
- Track national, continental and international politics, regional diplomacy, drugs and narcotics trade, people movement and military conflict.
- Identify emerging trends, threats, and narratives within extremist networks.
- Support the team lead with editing and reviewing reports.
- Label and edit data entries.
- Translation of documents.
