Management Accountant in Birmingham

Extra Recruitment are currently supporting our client in their search for a Management Accountant based in Birmingham .
They are looking for an experienced and agile Management Accountant to join their finance team at an ambitious business with exciting plans for growth.
As the company continues to grow, this role offers the opportunity to become an important part of finance function, combining strong management accounting fundamentals with hands-on financial processes and continuous improvement.
The role will be focused on production of management accounts, analysis and balance sheet control, with the remaining time involving ownership and oversight of other day-to-day finance processes.
This role would suit someone who combines strong management accounting skills with a hands-on approach, enjoys understanding the story behind the numbers and is motivated to improve processes.
This is an office-based role, and the successful candidate will be expected to work on site five days per week.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts.
Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations and analysis for the period-end process.
Assist with monthly reporting and provide meaningful analysis of financial performance.
Investigate variances and unusual movements, working with colleagues across the business where appropriate.
Maintain strong control over balance sheet accounts
Support the continued development of management information and reporting as the needs of the business evolve.
Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis to support the Finance team and wider business.
Take ownership of the fixed asset register and associated accounting.
Oversee the Barclaycard and staff expenses process, ensuring appropriate controls and timely processing.
Oversee utilities billing and provide finance support during contract renewals.
Complete National Statistics reporting and other relevant statutory submissions.
Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns when required.
Assist with the external audit process, providing schedules, supporting documentation and responding to queries.
About You
They are looking for someone who combines strong accounting fundamentals with a proactive and practical approach. You will ideally be able to demonstrate:
Experience preparing or contributing significantly to monthly management accounts.
Balance sheet reconciliation and financial control experience.
Good analytical skills, with the ability to investigate financial information and identify issues.
Strong Excel skills.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
The ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload and consistently meet deadlines.
Confidence working in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
A willingness to take ownership of both management accounting responsibilities and practical finance processes.
A continuous-improvement mindset and an interest in making processes more efficient and effective.
The ability to communicate effectively with finance and non-finance colleagues.
Experience of working through periods of business or finance-function change would be advantageous.
Knowledge of Pegasus Opera would be beneficial but is not essential.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally be qualified or studying towards CIMA, ACCA or ACA, or be able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience.
