This opportunity is for 1 of several teams, whichever team's objectives appeal. In this role you will be providing valuable support to one of the many teams which support the work of Extinction Rebellion UK, a movement which aims to tackle the climate and nature emergency head on, using campaigns and Nonviolent Direct Action to compel those in power to act. You will be contributing to a team's effectiveness and with a clear focus and ensure team members feel supported.

What are we looking for?

Besides skills and experience in team leading and task and volunteer management, these are additional skills and experience for each of the teams described earlier:

  • Digital: any of business analysis, software design, development and support
  • XR's Allies: networking and building relationships with organisations and individuals whom we wish to collaborate with in meeting XRUK's objectives
  • Actions and campaigns: campaign management
  • Coordinate London regional XR groups: help and train local London groups to cultivate and motivate enthusiastic volunteers. Interpersonal and facilitation skills are important.
  • Promoting assemblies: encouraging members who wish to try a very different form of democracy which is part of XRUK's demands
  • Explore XR: training, preparing training materials, supporting and mentoring recruits
  • Systems & Culture: able to apply governance principles to coordinate the work of 8 teams promoting and supporting XRUK's systems and culture and digital systems
  • Operations: able to develop and implement a tactical plan over 1-2 years, able to apply governance principles to coordinate the work of 13 diverse teams within Operations.

What will you be doing?

  • Digital: several teams giving development and support for:
    • XRUK's Wordpress website
    • A CRM system holding contact details of potential allies and donors
    • NextCloud, Only Office and other communication and software platforms
  • Allies: developing relationships with organisations outside of XRUK with similar objectives and with whom we wish to collaborate, to strengthen our messages and public profile
  • Actions and campaigns: supporting and equipping rebels everywhere to carry out high profile, non violent direct actions on the streets
  • London regional XR group: to coordinate and support local XR groups in London who will in turn support XR's actions in London. Plan how to take XR London forward, maximise impact, develop community and build in resilience and sustainability. This is the only team where you need to be specifically based anywhere, i.e. London.
  • Promoting assemblies: to show how things can be done differently in politics. This is based on the principle of the power of deliberative democracy.
  • Explore XR: help recent recruits to get involved in XRUK. Provide training and an understanding of how XRUK operates. You will be asked to attend these sessions anyway as part of your own induction and training.
  • Systems & Culture: developing resources, processes, training and support to help the movement to understand and appreciate our Principles and Values and our digital services.
  • Operations: implementing XRUK's strategy for 2025 - 6 using our tactical plan towards achieving our 3 demands, which are summarised as:
    • Tell the truth - all institutions must communicate the danger we are in.
    • Act now - every part of society must act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero and begin protecting and repairing nature immediately.
    • Decide together - a Citizen's Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice.
