We are looking for a Software Test Engineer III with deep expertise in non‑functional testing to ensure our Point‑of‑Sale (POS) retail systems deliver fast, reliable and seamless experiences across all store environments. You will validate the performance and resilience of POS terminals, peripherals, store networks and the cloud services that support them. Your work will directly impact checkout speed, transaction accuracy and overall customer satisfaction. This role is ideal for someone who understands the unique challenges of retail stores: high‑volume transactions, hardware variability, intermittent connectivity and the need for absolute reliability at the point of purchase.
Key Responsibilities
- Experience working with AI‑assisted coding tools (Claude Code) / AI agents and the curiosity to push them further in testing.
- Develop and execute non‑functional test plans focused on POS systems including performance, load, stress, endurance, reliability and migration testing.
- Conduct stress and reliability testing on POS hardware such as terminals, pin pads, scanners, receipt printers, cash drawers and mobile POS devices.
- Validate transaction performance under varying conditions including peak checkout periods, offline mode and degraded network scenarios.
- Test cloud‑connected POS services including pricing, promotions, tax calculation, loyalty and payment gateway integrations.
- Lead migration testing for POS software upgrades, device replacements, OS updates and backend service transitions.
- Leverage AI to build automation scripts for repeatable non‑functional testing across CI/CD pipelines supporting rapid retail deployments.
Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze system behavior under high‑volume transaction loads and store‑level stress conditions.
- Provide detailed reports on POS performance metrics, reliability KPIs and hardware‑specific bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with engineering, store operations and infrastructure teams to diagnose performance issues and recommend improvements.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Partner with store operations teams to replicate real‑world store scenarios including multi‑lane checkout, network failover and device interoperability.
- Work with cloud and DevOps teams to simulate production‑like environments for POS backend services.
- Mentor junior engineers on performance engineering, hardware testing and reliability best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Strong experience in non‑functional testing: performance, load, stress, endurance, reliability and migration.
- Hands‑on experience with POS systems including hardware peripherals and store‑level device ecosystems.
- Familiarity with retail transaction flows: item scanning, price lookup, promotions, tendering, payment authorization and receipt generation.
- Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter).
- Understanding of cloud‑based retail services and distributed architectures.
- Proficiency with monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, CloudWatch).
- Strong scripting/programming skills (Python, Java, Bash, PowerShell).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks.
- Experience with offline POS modes, store‑and‑forward transaction handling and network failover testing.
- Knowledge of containerized or microservices‑based retail backends.
- Background in store technology ecosystems (POS back‑office systems, inventory, payment processing).
- Exposure to large‑scale POS rollouts, upgrades or cloud migrations.
What You’ll Bring
You understand that the POS is the heartbeat of the retail store. You’re passionate about ensuring every transaction is fast, accurate and reliable—no matter the hardware, store conditions or customer volume. Your work helps keep lines moving, payments flowing and customers happy.
Benefits
- Group health coverage (medical, dental & vision)
- Employee Assistance Programs
- Pre‑tax spending accounts
- 401(k) plan (with company match)
- Company‑provided life insurance
- Pet Insurance
- Employee discounts
- Generous paid holiday schedule, paid vacation & sick/personal days
