Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a hands-on Principal Software Architect to lead end-to-end solution delivery for major retail platforms. In this role you will own architecture leadership, active implementation, and operational ownership of high-impact solutions bridging business requirements to working implementations. You will drive Dual-Track Agile processes guiding the Discovery Track for clarity and design exploration and the Delivery Track to ensure quality traceability and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Instrument and leverage AI/agentic workflows to accelerate design prototyping, code generation, test-case creation, specification drafting, and automated validation across the software lifecycle.
- AI-assisted development oversight, ethical compliance, and integration of generative AI tools.
- Own end-to-end solution delivery across Discovery and Delivery Tracks converting business needs into validated prototypes, formal designs, decomposed deliverables, and accepted technical implementations.
- Lead the Discovery Track under Dual-Track Agile rapidly prototyping and demoing solutions to validate feasibility and align stakeholders before full implementation.
- Translate discovery outcomes into delivery backlog items ensuring design intent, architecture standards, and non-functional requirements are preserved throughout implementation.
- Lead architecture design and governance across products and integrations: produce ADRs, interface contracts, data models, sequencing diagrams, migration/rollback plans, and traceability matrices.
- Serve as active technical lead in client engagements: facilitate workshops, present technical solutions, make trade-off decisions, drive approvals, and act as a subject-matter expert for assigned platform areas.
- Implement and demo reference code or critical components applying hands-on coding in modern retail platform stacks, reviewing and approving deliverables from implementation teams.
- Define and enforce architecture standards, reusable integration patterns, and non-functional requirements (security, scalability, observability) across client solutions.
- Mentor and upskill engineers and architects on AI-assisted development, Dual-Track workflows, specification-driven design, and platform best practices.
- Contribute to platform and portfolio strategy identifying reusable assets, API-first designs, and gaps requiring investment.
- Own risk analysis and mitigation for architecture decisions including backward compatibility, data integrity, and compliance constraints.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Applying and utilizing AI-assisted tools and workflows (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) for design, coding, test generation, and documentation.
- 12 years of professional software development experience including recent hands-on coding and prototyping in modern technology stacks.
- 8 years designing cloud-native microservices or event-driven architectures with experience in Azure or equivalent cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with technology stack such as Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript, React/Vue.
- Proven experience owning end-to-end solution delivery including design, implementation, and post-release operational accountability for medium-to-large projects.
- Hands-on experience building prototypes or reference implementations to validate architecture and solution feasibility.
- Strong experience with REST/OpenAPI messaging platforms and relational/non-relational databases (SQL/NoSQL).
- Hands-on proficiency with CI/CD, containerization, Docker, Kubernetes, deployment tooling, automated testing, and AI/agentic workflows to accelerate the software lifecycle.
- Practical experience with generative AI and AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) with measurable impact on delivery.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills capable of facilitating workshops, presenting technical solutions, and collaborating across business and engineering teams.
- Proven leadership in mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and enforcing architecture governance, promoting best practices across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong retail platform domain knowledge (POS systems, store operations) is highly desirable.
- Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect or equivalent cloud credentials.
- Strong understanding of advanced security best practices and compliance requirements in enterprise systems.
- Experience leading Dual-Track Agile processes managing both Discovery and Delivery Tracks and translating discovery outcomes into actionable backlog items.
- Experience contributing to platform strategy, reusable assets, and API-first designs.
- Expertise in formal or machine-readable specifications (OpenAPI, UML, OCL, TLA or equivalent) to guide implementation and enable automated validation.
