Our client is an award winning building design consultancy. They are currently looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This role will be based at their Northallerton site on a hybrid basis.
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will be an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team that includes Architects, Building Surveyors, Civil Engineers, M&E Engineers, and Quantity Surveyors.

About the Principal Structural Engineer
You will be responsible for managing an increasing project workload and delivering high‑quality structural designs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the multi-discipline design team to develop structural designs that meet client aspirations and are constructible.
- Produce conceptual and detailed superstructure designs for a diverse range of clients across various sectors.
- Develop efficient and cost-effective substructure solutions for challenging sites.
- Respond to site queries, review fabrication details, visit sites, attend meetings, and monitor construction activities as required.
- Liaise with the \’in-house\’ design team and external parties to ensure practical and cost-effective solutions are utilised.
- Undertake technical design reviews and lead projects.
About You – Principal Structural Engineer
As Principal Structural Engineer, you will have a degree in civil/structural engineering or equivalent, along with experience within an engineering consultancy.
Requirements
- Proficient in preparing detailed designs and specifications using first principles hand calculations, AutoCAD, TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer software, or similar.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant UK and European codes of practice in reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and timber.
- Ability to independently carry out surveys and reports.
- IT literacy with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
