A long-established, market-leading precision engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced Sales Estimator to join its commercial team. Supplying high-specification, machined components into demanding sectors, this organisation requires a technically strong and commercially aware individual with a solid machining background to support continued growth.
The Sales Estimator will play a key role in supporting the business’s commercial success by producing accurate and competitive quotations for complex machined components. Working closely with customers, engineering, and supply chain teams, the Sales Estimator will ensure all quotations are technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with production capability.
Key Responsibilities of the Sales Estimator- Review customer RFQs, drawings and specifications to assess feasibility within manufacturing capabilities.
- Analyse machining processes, materials, tooling and cycle times to generate accurate cost estimates.
- Prepare detailed and competitive quotations that support required margins.
- Liaise with material suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and evaluate pricing.
- Work closely with internal engineering and production teams to validate estimates and improve efficiencies.
- Support customer engagement, including technical discussions and design for manufacture input.
- Maintain strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve costing accuracy, lead times and profitability.
- Proven experience within a precision engineering or build-to-print manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials and production methods.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance cost, risk and competitiveness.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technically and commercially.
- Apprenticeship or qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (preferred).
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools (desirable).
