Medical Officers oversee the medical aspects of our residential courses, providing First Aid, managing medical emergencies, and maintaining all aspects of medication handling including storage, ordering, administration, and record-keeping. They actively collaborate with the wider Welfare Team (the Centre Manager, Welfare Manager, and House Parents) to monitor the health and well-being of both students and staff. This includes tracking injuries, illnesses, and pre-existing conditions, and identifying any patterns or common issues.

In this role you'll have opportunities to enhance clinical skills in first aid, emergency response, medication management, and caring for diverse health conditions. Main Roles and Accountability

Medical Responsibilities

  • You maintain awareness of all medical, dietary, and allergy information including care plans, communicating relevant details to appropriate team members to ensure proper care.
  • You ensure students with medical needs always carry lifesaving devices such as inhalers and epi-pens.
  • You assess, treat, and document minor injuries and illnesses like cuts, grazes, colds, sore throats, and headaches, referring serious cases to local healthcare and informing Welfare and Centre Managers.
  • You manage all medication at the centre, ensuring safe storage and accurate dispensing.
  • You assist with student check-in focusing on medical information collection, medication, and encouraging contact with home.
  • You are fully familiar with accident and emergency procedures, monitor and maintain medical stock and First Aid bags, accompany students/staff to medical facilities when required, coordinate with catering for allergies, liaise with parents, agents, and Head Office regarding health and wellbeing, and coordinate weekly laundry services for staff uniforms.

Welfare Responsibilities

  • You provide compassionate support to staff and students, support Welfare and Centre Managers in overseeing welfare, participate in Welcome Meetings to introduce rules and help settling, monitor mealtimes for attendance and nutrition, and manage lost property return procedures.

Additional Duties

  • You assist with office duties, attend daily staff meetings, adhere to Staff Handbook guidelines, support camp logistics with setup and pack-down, and carry out other reasonable duties as required.
