The Role

We are looking for a solicitor at NQ – 5 years PQE level to join our expanding civil liberties team. The role will involve running your own caseload of actions against the police and public bodies for matters including unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, human rights breaches, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office and judicial reviews. The role will require a strong litigation background, as you will be dealing with predominantly multi‑track work and civil jury trials.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of actions against the police claims from cradle to grave
  • Conducting thorough legal research and providing sound legal advice to clients
  • Preparing and drafting legal documents, including pleadings and witness statements
  • Negotiating settlements and representing clients in court when necessary
  • Working in a target driven, fast paced environment
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the successful outcome of cases
  • Keeping up to date with changes in relevant laws and regulations

Person Specification

  • You must be a practising solicitor
  • At least 3 years of experience dealing with your own caseload of Part 7 litigation work
  • Exceptional client care and quality control skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the CPR and pre‑action disclosure procedure
  • Experience in multi‑track work preferred but not essential
  • Experience in running cases to trial with Counsel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to conduct your own research
  • Experience in using case management systems such as Proclaim
  • Excellent IT skills

Retain positions are also offered for a solicitor with a strong civil litigation background of at least 2 years. Full training will be provided.
