The Role

We are looking for a Lawyer to join our expanding Civil Liberties team. The role will involve running your own caseload of actions against the police and public bodies for matters including unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, human rights breaches, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office and judicial reviews. The role will require a strong litigation background, as you will be dealing with predominantly multi-track work and civil jury trials.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of actions against the police claims from cradle to grave
  • Conducting thorough legal research and providing sound legal advice to clients
  • Preparing and drafting legal documents, including pleadings and witness statements
  • Negotiating settlements and representing clients in court when necessary
  • Working in a target driven, fast paced environment
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the successful outcome of cases
  • Keeping up to date with changes in relevant laws and regulations

Person Specification

  • At least 3 years of experience of dealing with your own case load of Part 7 litigation work
  • Exceptional client care and quality control skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the CPR and pre-action disclosure procedure
  • Experienced in multi-track work preferred but not essential
  • Experienced in running cases to trial with Counsel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to conduct own research
  • Experienced in using case management systems such as Proclaim
  • Re-train positions are also offered for a solicitor with a strong civil litigation background of at least 2 years. Full training will be provided

Salary & Hours

  • Salary dependent on experience with attractive monthly billing-based bonus
  • Our standard working hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday-Thursday and 8:30am to 5pm Friday
  • Hybrid Working 3/2 hybrid working pattern after probation
  • 23 Days Holiday Rising to 26 days, plus bank/public holidays
  • 3 holiday buy backs and an extra day for your birthday after service length requirement
