Express Recruitment is recruiting for a motivated and ambitious Trainee with excellent attention to detail to join a growing organisation offering an excellent opportunity to begin and develop a career in finance, based in Nottingham. Working within a supportive finance team, this role will provide hands‑on exposure to day‑to‑day accounting activities while offering a structured study support package to help the successful candidate gain professional qualifications. This is an ideal opportunity for someone at the start of their finance career who is eager to learn, develop technical skills, and gain experience supporting both internal teams and external clients. The role offers the chance to work closely with experienced finance professionals and gain exposure to management accounts, VAT returns, bookkeeping and financial reporting, while building strong foundational knowledge within a collaborative team environment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the processing of daily financial transactions including sales and purchase invoicing
  • Support bank reconciliations and bookkeeping activities including journal postings and ledger reconciliations
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end financial processes
  • Support the preparation of VAT returns and management accounts
  • Assist with internal group financial reporting
  • Provide general administrative support including filing, answering calls and supporting the finance team to meet deadlines

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of B/6 in GCSE Maths essential
  • Some basic accounting knowledge would be beneficial
  • Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Organised and methodical with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Strong numeracy and data entry skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
