Our client is now seeking a motivated and technically capable Software Development and Engineering Support Specialist to join their growing team.
This is a key role within the business responsible for the ongoing development, modernisation and management of the company’s in‑house engineering software tools. This role would suit an analytical and curious individual with a background in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline who enjoys working with both modern and legacy technologies. You will take ownership of maintaining and improving existing software including enhancing front‑end usability while collaborating closely with engineers.
The role offers a competitive salary of up to £50k, hybrid working options, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, Christmas shutdown, company pension scheme, cycle to work initiative, sick pay and free on‑site parking.
Roles & Responsibilities- Manage, maintain and further develop the company’s in‑house engineering software tools
- Modernise and enhance front‑end user interfaces to improve usability and efficiency
- Work with and improve legacy codebases written in languages such as VB and Fortran
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver effective software solutions
- Support live engineering projects through software‑based analysis, automation and data processing
- Improve software structure, documentation and version control practices
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for internal software users
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of digital tools and workflows across the business
- A minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience with VB or Fortran
- Demonstrable experience working with legacy codebases
- Solid understanding of software development fundamentals including debugging, testing and documentation
- Experience or strong interest in front‑end development and modernising user interfaces
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
