Express Recruitment are excited to be working with a well-established manufacturer of bespoke machinery and special purpose equipment for customers across 100 countries globally. Due to continued growth and further development of their HVAC & Refrigeration NPD projects, our client is seeking the addition of an experienced Design Engineer with proven knowledge and understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, pressure servicing and refrigeration cycles. This is a full time, permanent position, contracted to 37 hours per week. The working hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday, with a 1pm finish on Friday.

In return, you will receive a generous starting salary of up to £45,000, plus annual free profit share bonus (tax free up to £3k), 6.5% pension contribution, 26 days holiday plus stats (increases with length of service), x3 life assurance and genuine opportunities to progress and broaden skillset with a dynamic and innovative employer.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
  • Proven experience in the design of commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems, with applied knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
  • Previous experience in the assembly and testing of HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • In depth knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations (F-Gas safety registered preferred)
  • Proficient user of Solidworks 2D & 3D in order to create detailed drawings
  • Previous workshop experience useful, such as manual machining and electro-mechanical fitting
  • Confident communicator on all levels, including internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated to deliver projects in a timely manner

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing product range whilst dedicating time to designing new products throughout the product range
  • Consult with customers directly to understand their requirements and refine product specifications
  • Liaise closely with purchasing team to request niche components and materials needed for NPD projects
  • Perform validation testing across entire product range whilst utilising various experimental methods and accurately recording results on the system (e.g. assessing the behaviour of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics concepts)
  • Design and create detailed electro-mechanical system designs and specification packs
  • Liaise with production department to continuously improve existing products, both functionally and aesthetically
  • Assemble desk based prototype instrumentation systems
  • Support sales and marketing with promotion on new products
  • Ensure all product designs are carried out in adherence with relevant safety and regulatory requirements (e.g. F-Gas)
  • Develop experiments to demonstrate the learning outcomes of each product throughout the range
