Our client is seeking an experienced Production Team Leader to join a fast‑paced manufacturing environment supporting day‑to‑day operations while developing and motivating production teams. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, efficient and high‑quality production aligned with operational targets. The successful candidate will coordinate colleagues across multiple workstations, provide performance feedback and help build team skills and confidence. You will also work closely with the Production and Operations Managers to support planning, compliance and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for someone with strong people management skills, a proactive approach to problem‑solving and a solid understanding of health and safety within a production environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate production operatives across rolling stock workstations
- Ensure tasks are completed safely, to specification and within agreed timescales
- Drive daily production performance in line with agreed schedules and capture KPIs
- Address issues impacting output or quality
- Promote a strong safety culture by completing pre‑start checks and reporting near misses
- Monitor welfare and enforce H&S procedures
- Troubleshoot machinery, equipment and material issues while liaising with maintenance to minimise downtime
- Support Production and Operations Managers with planning, communication and absence management
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working within the rail industry is ideal
- Proven experience in a production or manufacturing leadership role
- Experience within a heavy engineering or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of Health and Safety compliance and risk awareness
- Knowledge of safe systems of work
- Confident people leader with experience coaching teams and managing performance
- Ability to resolve issues on the shop floor
- Practical hands‑on approach with the ability to resolve operational or equipment‑related problems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge shop‑floor teams and senior management
